Q about Rolling

How often does your LO roll? Is it all the time? My LO can roll both ways, but it takes a LOT of effort and he generally doesn't have the desire to. I want him to roll more, but it's hard to motivate him. He's sitting up and lunging for things around him, he just won't roll very often. It kind of worries me, but I heard that if they're progressing in other ways it shouldn't be that big of a deal.

I of course forgot to mention this at his 6 month check up. Embarrassed

Re: Q about Rolling

  • LO doesn't like to roll either.  He was sitting unsupported really early and lunges for things also, his pediatrician said that he might not do a whole lot of rolling now that he can sit. It still worries me a little bit even though she said not to be concerned so I can understand where you're coming from.

  • He isn't one to go rolling from one end of the room to the other.

He rolls in his crib daily/nightly. He rolls on his activity mat. He rolled once at my sister's house lol. He rolls on the couch but then gets pissed that he rolled.

  • I have one who is a roller- from one end of the room to the other.   And another who will roll if there is something interesting- and he can't do his worm move to get it- but he really likes to sit and play with toys.
  • Mine doesn't sit yet, so she rolls quite a bit to get things she wants. She gets stuck though as she doesn't seem to get the concept of walls yet...it's pathetically sad when she gets herself stuck up against one and then starts screaming because she wants to keep going in that direction.

  • I'm sure he's fine. My kids were never major rollers either.

  • K loves to roll she will roll she can now go into a sitting position which is nice for me.  I caught her rolling down the hall so we quickly put up the baby gate for the stairs and of course she hasn't done it since. Lately she has been mostly staying in one area she rolls to a toy or tries to crawl to it, she has crawled a few times but I think she keeps forgetting how to do it lol, once she get her toy she sits up and plays with it. My sisters has 4 kids and half of them didn't roll I think these babies know what they like and don't like and what is comfortable to them or not.

Can I borrow her for an afternoon?  B has no interest in rolling and this sounds adorable to witness (at least the first few times).

B loves to sit but has no interest in rolling or army crawling.  He can roll belly to back, but only goes 3/4ers of the way from back to belly.  We were at the doc this morning and my pedi wasn't concerned.

  • when griffin started rolling both ways it would take him a while to do the complete action.  sometimes he would roll to his side and stay there for a few minutes and then go to his back or belly.  his rolling has only recently become more fluid and in one action.

he rolls a lot more now than when he first learned.  at first he would only roll once a day.  now he rolls every time we lay him down.

  • Thanks everyone. This puts my worries at ease!

  • LO is 7 months old today and still not rolling willingly.  I know she can because she's flipped both ways in her crib before, but apparently she just doesn't like to do it.  I'm not really concerned because she's hitting other milestones.
