Two Under 2

baby #3 timing?

I know #3 istalked about alot, but help me out.

We plan on stopping BC in sept, so the kids would be 2 years apart. If you live in a HOT climate, do you plan on avoiding being HUGE during the summer? I know that sounds nuts, but its valid. Its hot here for at least 5 months straight and the idea of that freaks me out. We'll have 2 older kids who need to get out and go to the poo, so I would be huge if I was due in Aug or so. Having a newborn in June sucked as well--we couldnt go to the pool much, but I also had a 18 month old who didnt listen. I guess I also dont want them more than 2.5 years apart...so if I wait it will be a longer gap.

DS was born in Dec and I loved it (minus the Christmas bday). I was very small in the summer and by the next summer he was old enough for sunblock and sitting at the baby pool. I know this sounds nut, because you cant control it all...BUT I got pregnant both times fast. I have a DH who is gone 3 wks then home for 3 wks, so our times are limited to try...but we havent had any trouble so far. I guess I am just curious if others think this way, or am I the only nutsy one? ;)

Re: baby #3 timing?

  • I definitely thought a lot about the season when we were TTC#2 - and, like you, we get pregnant quickly (cycle 2 for DS, cycle 1 for this baby).

Something I considered was that a winter baby (like a December/January birthday) would mean a fair bit of time indoors given the climate where I am and how much snow we get.  I get a bit anxious thinking about being stuck inside all day with a few kids that need to run around and get antsy being cooped up.

If we go for #3, I'd like to time it for an April-ish due date.  I think that's ideal for pregnancy (3rd trimester would be Feb - April so not too hot) and then baby would be able to come along in a carrier to the park, etc.

I agree with this.  I didn't plan either of my kids birthdays - DS took forever, so I was just happy to get pregnant, and Dd was an unmedicated surprise that we didn't think could happen.  But I really enjoyed my DD's may birthday.  We got out of the house a lot all summer long.  With DS's birthday in February, we spent a lot of time indoors, and with more than one kid, I think that would be rough.  So we are not trying, not avoiding right now (stopped using protection around DD's first birthday), and will be perfectly happy if we get pg with #3 - it would be due any time from March on.  If we have trouble like we did with #1, then we may not have a third, but that was our plan for now!

  • I think if we lived where it snowed, I would consider that. I am more concerned about the heat. the winter here is mild and barely gets below 40.

  • I live in Florida. The summers here are no joke. I definitely thought about it. I am having my 2nd December baby. It worked out great last time. Not huge in the summer..the baby was old enough the following summer to get out and do stuff. My oldest was an April baby and even that was pretty good because he was born before the hot hot weather though he was still pretty little for the summer.

  • Haha, yes! My husband farms and we have cattle so we plan TTC around certain months...We got pregnant the first cycle with all three so I know where you are coming from. Fall, spring and Summer babies are not the best times for us...so we have three Winter babies! November, February and thisone is December!!

  • I have a sept baby and an oct baby and I HATED being very pregnant over the summer. I avoided being outside as much as possible, I was down right nasty when I got hot! My Feb, May and June pregnancies were much easier to handle towards the end. We wanted our kids to be around 18 months apart so that kind of dictated where due dates would fall. Even though DS 3 can't wear sunscreen I still plan on going to the pool a lot with the kids ( we have already been to the lake twice). I just keep him in the stroller covered up. We also have a "full body" bathing suit in case I want to venture into the pool with him. GL with your decision.

  • I live in TX so believe me I understand 100 degree and the preggo belly!

DD1 was born in Feb and it was PERFECT! I got pregnant in May so was barely pregnant thru all the heat and was huge when it was "cold".

DD2  was born in Sept and I was MISERABLE all summer! I could not go outside at all unless it involved a swimming pool!

This one is due in Dec so I am excited about being big in the winter again!

  • I am a school teacher and do not have maternity leave.  I have to plan being pregnant around the school year.  Thank goodness though because where I live that means either a March, April or May baby.  I could not handle being near or due in June, July, Aug, or Sept. here it is too darn hot. So do I think you are nutsy- noper, just smart and a planner.

  • I have had 2 babies in Sept and it was awful. I'm definitely thinking about that. We also got sick a lot through the winter. I think I'd prefer a spring baby but I'm not ready for this spring. I guess I'm looking at next summer for getting pg. I'd be ok with being a little pg through the summer though.

  • Nope, I definitely planned TTC around the temperature. Although both times, I was hoping for a March/April baby and thought it would take longer for me to get pregnant. :X   I did like being pregnant for the winter though. IF we have a 3rd, I'll be aiming for an April/May EDD. I wouldnt like to be pregnant for the summer, and if we didnt get pregnant right away I'd probably take a few months off so I'd be due in November timeframe.

I think there are positives and negatives for every season (except Fall!)

Summer, yeah you'll be hot, but it's only 3 months of your life. And you don't have to be outside ALL day.. you can sit in the AC for most of it :)

I am due in early January so I'll be my biggest in December which I'm not thrilled about being in the Midwest... my DD was born in April and I just started showing with her in the winter and I hated walking through snow when I was working on just being balanced!

  • We just lost baby #3 at 1 day short of 12 weeks. We just want ours close in age and I honestly don't mind the weather, we have a/c. :-) As soon as I get a cycle we're trying again for our #3. :-)

  • we got pregnant really easy the first two times. i mean, we blinked and we were pregnant. didn't even have to 'try'.

this time, we are entering cycle 3 and nothing. i know that is not a lot for some, but it is for us.

so.....i would say just start trying and not worry about timing because it may not be as easy the third time....just from my experience.

and personally, i love march- may babies. i have 2 march babies and love how the seasons fall with their age.

  • I have two summer babies. There is no way in HELL I am going to have another one. Last summer was the hottest summer on record here in many years and the hottest of my life. I am planning on a spring baby, at the latest, for number 3.
