Potty training...could this be confusing to a LO?

I mentioned in another post the other day that Justin started wearing underwear at his sitter's and was doing very well with it.  Over the weekend we had him wear it again.  However, he had several accidents.  We went to my niece's b-day party and I was mentioning this to my Step-Mom.  She made a comment that it's probably confusing to switch them back and forth between underwear and diapers.  Do you agree with this?  We spend a lot of time outside of the house on the weekends so I can't really put him in underwear at this point....he would have accidents.  I would love to do the 3-day training I've heard about but aren't you pretty much stuck at home for those three days?  That's not really easy for us to do since we work full-time.

  • Next weekend is a three day weekend...maybe try then? I don't have advice though. Good luck!

  • Yeah, I'd say that I'd agree with that...  We put G in a pull-up for the car ride when we made the 12 hour drive back home for Thanksgiving and he regressed after that car ride.  You are house bond for 3 days with the 3-day potty training, but it would be worth trying if it's something you're interested in.
  • I think it is confusing.  Once I switched to underwear we never put him in a diaper again (just pullups for naps and overnight for awhile).  We only had a few accidents over about 3 days, but just carry an extra pair of underwear with you wherever you go and make sure to take him before you leave and when you arrive somewhere.  It seems like they go a lot at first, but once they get the hang of it I swear Reed has an iron bladder.  He can go hours without a trip to the bathroom now.
  • Yeah, I do think it could be confusing.  I would take Rosie out in pull ups when we first started training, we never went back to a regular diaper (except for overnights, but she's nowhere near ready to be in underwear at night).  Now I always have an extra pair of underwear, pants and socks in the car just in case there is an accident, but we've never had one in public.  We also have a rule that she has to go potty before we leave the house, no exceptions.
