Cloth Diapering

I can't stop crying...

Someone stole all of our Cds I had sunning in our backyard!  I put them out this morning to sun, and then left for the day to take my girls over to my sister's for a bbq.  It's all gone- everything!  They took our diaper pail liner, our wetbag, even the octopus hanging thing I put my dipes on.  I gave my LO a bath after we came home, put her on the floor for some bare bum time, went outside to collect them, and couldn't believe my eyes.  I called my DH at work in case he had done something with them before he left, but he said they were hanging there at 1pm when he left.

I went around to all of my neighbors asking them if they saw anything, but no one had.  I even left little notes with my phone # and address in case anyone finds them, I told people they could just leave them on my porch.  I am hoping it was some silly prank, and they turn up, but I suspect my neighbor whose house is for sale.  She complained last week that she thinks the CDs hanging out makes things look "cheap and trashy", and that's why her house hasn't sold.  I'm sure it has nothing to do with the market or economy or anything...  Another neighbor mentioned that they had an open house today, so there were a lot of people around.

I dragged my poor girls around the neighborhood, crying like a crazy person looking around for them.  I finally had to give up and put them to bed.  I'm sick to my stomach.  Almost 75% of our stash was out there.  All I had clean was the stuff that I like least.  You know how it is- you reach for the best first.  I know I'm rambling, but I just had to explain it to people who could understand.

Honestly, that is one of the worries that my dipes don't get sunned very often... I refuse to do it if I won't be home all day...

  • Oh yah, it definitely sounds like the neighbor did it.  She probably didn't want them out there during her open house.

Mostly fitted and AI2 and a few pockets.  Nothing super special.  Grovias, kissas, thirsties, sbish, econappis... all stuff easy to come by.  I even checked my local CL just in case someone posted them for sell.  If they were customs it might make more sense.   I'm still so stunned by the whole thing.

  • the fact that EVERYTHING, especially the drying rack is gone definitely points to the neighbor's open house...I can't imagine a run of the mill thief drawing attention to themselves over a $5 rack...

I'm hoping that if it was her she might leave them on my porch overnight, but then what would she do the next time she had a showing?  We live on a dead end, so I never really worried about things before.  Our CD's aren't even visible from the street- only a neighbor's backyard.

so shady...I would just tell her you are reporting the theft to the cops, and you can see what her reaction would be.  Of course, I am mean and would probably pretend like the stash was worth way more than it is to scare her!

That's a good idea- although I'm not sure about the deductible.  I don't really have any proof of what I owned, but it is worth a call to my insurance company.

  • Oh my goodness! That is terrible. You should keep a watch for them on your local craigslist and ebay. Maybe you could recover them. I hope so! I am nauseated just thinking about it.

I was too upset tonight to think clearly about anything.  I'm going to send DH over tomorrow to talk to her.  She hates me, but thinks he walks on water.  Maybe she'll "find" them if she can be his hero.  I am going to have to file a report with the police if I make an insurance claim, so I will make sure she knows the police are going to be called.

  • If you purchased the diapers online you could print out the receipts for insurance purposes. Even used diapers if you have a PP receipt.

I have a HH pocket that's like new (worn once) that doesn't fit DD well. PM me your address and I'll send it to you.

  • That is horrible!  And I also think it is the stupid neighbor.  This is exactly why I rarely sun my diapers.  I hope they show up!

  • I would definitely call the cops and file a report. Explain the situation. Given that they are only visible from her backyard they will likely go talk to her about it. Maybe if they approach it as a prank / quarrel thing she will give them back. I am SO sorry!

  • Thank you ladies for all your support and advice.

I just spent the last half hour trying to track down receipts before I call the insurance company.  It did make me laugh when I thought about how the conversation with the claims department might go.  I can just imagine them saying "you paid how much for one diaper?"

  • This is so awful. I truly am sorry. But like everyone else said, call the cops. I'm scared to sun mine because we have a neighbor just like yours. She calls the cops on us if we park even an inch in front of her house, and I don't mean in her drive way.

    Hopefully you can find them.

  • That is awful. I would file a police report and let them know exactly how much you have spent.  They may take it more seriously when they find out it is several hundred dollars worth.

I would also scare the crud out of the neighbor. Send your DH over and tell him to let her know that you filed a police report, and how much the diapers are worth.  Maybe that will scare her into giving them back.

  • OMG that's horrible.  I'm so sorry.  I can't imagine a random person risking getting caught just to steal some CDs and a clothes line.  Based on what you've said I agree that it could probably be your neighbor.  I'd send DH over to talk to her.  I hope you get them back.
  • I'm so sorry!  I can't imagine how upset I would be if this happened.  I hope that filing a police report ends up with them getting returned to you.  I'm really so, very very sorry!

and i'd be filing a police report.  and see if the police would go next door and ask her about it  since she's protested the clothesline before.

  • I am so pissed for you!  I, too, hope that she took them down to "hide them" until after the OH and that they'll mysteriously turn up today so that there is no confrontation.   What a b!  Although, I would be very tempted to show up on her front step and tell her to cough them up.

  • that is kind of the lowest point of humanity!  Stealing from a baby!  And stealing their DIAPERS.  Hello.  WTF???? I would definitely file a police report. I mean seriously, who steals diapers???? And I would have an estimate of their value when you do so the police don't give you some crap about $5 worth of diapers.  If they are worth enough, the crime goes from a misdemeanor to a felony.

That is terrible!  Is there anyway you can peek in her trash can when she takes it out?  She might try to dispose of the evidence if she thinks you suspect her. Sad

  • How horrible!

I think that it's her too. Should could have just taken them down and put them on the porch or something instead of taking them.
I hope you get them back, and I secretly hope her house takes a year longer to sell.
