Poop. (Don't open if you don't want to hear about poo)

I have not pooed since Friday.  Tongue Tied

I am usually very regular.  Like, I'm one of those people Dr. Oz talks about that poos for every meal.  I usually go #2 two times a day (sometimes 3!  I like salads and fiber!!! lol)

My prenatal has a stool softener in it supposedly and I have been taking the same one this whole time.  But in the last week or so...I have NOT been regular AT ALL.  I have ate 3 fiber one bars since Friday.  I am getting ready to buy some cracklin oat bran (loooove that stuff!).  I'm on fiber patrol!!!!

And friday's poo...was NOT COMFORTABLE AT ALL.  It made me think there is no way I can have this baby without meds.  It was not a good experience.   I read constipation is common during pregnancy...but I thought I'd escaped that since I've come this far with NO PROBLEMS in that dept.

  • You poor thing.  Not pooping is the worst feeling!  I'm sure you already know, but make sure you are pushing fluids as well, all that fiber without water can actually have he opposite effect, unfortunately.  If that doesn't work talk to your OB about an additional stool softener.  I know Colace is okay after birth, but not sure about while you are still pregnant.

  • I have been trying to push a lot of fluids too, but I'm going to try to hydrate even more now!  Its the strangest thing since this was SOOOO not a problem up until a week ago.

Sad   I am definitely going to talk to my Dr at my next appt if my increased fluid/fiber intake doesn't "move things" along!

  • I'm not sure how far along you are...but if you are 38 weeks + you can always try some castor oil! That'll take care of the poop problem and may even get you a baby!

  • I always wanna hear about poo!

I am a very regular poo-er too, like 2-3 times a day usually. I feel your pain though, lately it's been once a day or so and not very comfortable ones. So sad. I miss my big, awesome poos. Maybe ask the pharmacist for an additional stool softener to get things going!

  • Have you tried papaya?  If I eat about 1/2 of one, it usually clears me right out.  Delicious too.

  • I have had the same problem. In fact, I think I went nearly a week without being able to go (I have IBS, and usually I have no problems going). I eat 2 fiber one bars a day, drinks lots of water and when it still doesn't help I take 2-3 colace capsules. Its in my safe to take during pregnancy list. I hope you feel better soon.

  • I would call the doctor and see if you can take something like miralax.  That sucks!

I do know you can take stool softener during pregnancy too.  So, you could try that.  I hate hate hate it when I can't poop.

  • I have always had good experience w increasing my fiber and eating 3-4 fruit (fresh) servings with each meal.

  • I've found a small cup of coffee (the real deal, with caffeine) helps in that department when I'm in a real pinch.  Especially since I started adding in an extra iron suppliment, it has not been a pleasant experience for someone who was always super regular and never had problems before.

    Feel better!

  • I FEEL YA!

I was Madame Regular as well, had a bump in the first tri, got so much better in the 2nd where I was back to regular again, but nearing the end of the third tri I've been stopped up. Last week I was just like you. It was Monday, and I hadn't pooped since thursday evening!

I've been popping collace to make it easier when it does decide to come out, but I still go long periods in between (long for a regular gal; or just too long) where I can't poop.

  • I haven't been regular this entire pregnancy.  My dr, who is a high risk dr, has ok'ed colace and miralax for me to take.  I haven't taken miralax in a while as the colace seems to work as long as I take it regular.  He even said it's ok to take daily.  But in the beginning when it was really bad I did miralax at least 3 x's a week.
