BrestFriend or Boppy?

And why one over the other?  Thanks!

Re: BrestFriend or Boppy?

  • I like them both & use them both daily.  If I had to pick one I'd say BF.  It is more supportive for both the baby & your back.  In the beginning I used it exclusively b/c with the boppy I had to sit indian style to get DD high enough to nurse her without feeling hunched over.  BFing is very hard on the back initially b/c you are pretty much in that position all.the.time for weeks on end so the BF was definitely my favorite in the beginning.  Now I use the BF in her room in the glider & the boppy everywhere else in the house.

  • Both. My Brest Friend I use it every time I feed him. I prefer it over the boppy because it sits high, you nned to have it up as if your boobs were resting on a shelf, you can't do that with the boppy unless you put pillows under it. With my brest friend you can just spin it for football hold, not as comfortable with the boppy. I use the boppy when I'm rocking him on my glider, I lean back I put him on my chest and I put the boppy around me to rest my arms and in case I fall asleep he won't go anywhere. When he's older you can prop him on the boppy and they loveit, for tummy time is great too. So, Brest Freind for nursing, Boppy for other uses. HTH.
  • I have a newborn and I can't use the Boppy because she slides down in between my stomach and the pillow.  I love the BF for all the reasons stated above.  I hope to be able to use the Boppy when she's older but if not at least I'll use it to prop her up.

Basically, this.  I keep my BF in our bedroom for night and early morning nursing and the boppy in the living room for day time.  However, as another PP stated, I couldn't use the boppy at first because he would roll down between me and the boppy.

If I could only have one, hands down the BF.

This! Now I don't use either for BF but maybe I should bust them out again!! Switch things up some ;) If I had to choose one, I loved BreastFriend.

And the Boppy is great now for him to sit propped up so that is still out while BF is put away.

  • Another vote for the MBF.  In the beginning, the Boppy was useless.  He would slip in the space between me and the pillow, and it was never up high enough.  Now that he is bigger and can support himself a little more, I use the Boppy in the living room, and keep the MBF in the nursery to feed him at night because I think the MBF is probably easier for him to fall asleep on.  I got the Boppy as a hand-me-down so I figured I'd might as well keep it.  But when I get pregnant again, I'm getting a second MBF.  One for upstairs and one for downstairs!

  • I've never used the BrestFriend, but I loved the Boppy for nursing.  I didn't like it when we were still in the hospital, but I think we were still adjusting to BF in general.  Once we got home, it worked great.  It put DS at a good height for me and I didn't have to sit cross-legged or hunched over (I'm 5'6" with a long torso).  I don't remember having problems with DS sliding down in either and he was a peanut when he was born, 5 lbs. 13 oz.  It's also more versatile than the BF since LO can use it too.

  • 100% breast friend!!!! Couldn't imagine life without it! The Boppy is only good for tummy time, etc.

  • I like the BF over the Boppy for breastfeeding. It has made things so much easier for me.

  • Thanks, everyone!  That's pretty much what I expected to hear about the two pillows.  I remember holding my friend's newborn and using her Boppy, and it seemed so low.  When I saw the LC, I used a BrestFriend and thought it felt pretty good.

  • BF was good when they are small and tiny- however as they get bigger I found it too stiff and high up (I have a bigger chunkey monkey as he got older) so the boppy was easier.

  • I had both and could not get the Boppy to work for me. It didn't support in the right areas so I still had to prop a pillow and my arm on the side. The Brest Friend was much more supportive and put DD at just the right level to nurse so I could have both arms free.

  • Personally, I didn't like the BF. I found it too stiff and uncomfortable to sit while wearing.
