Anyone have a good frosting recipe?

I am in need of a frosting recipe for DDs birthday cake. Looking for something that decorates well and doesn't run. The ones I have are all softer and when you put two colors on top of each other the colors kinda run together.

We used the "Creamy Frosting" from the Better Home & Gardens cookbook.

Excellent, tastes good, and holds well. Some have complimented it looks like fondant when it chills in the fridge.

I use my mom's buttercream frosting... love it!

Posie Cream Frosting:

2 cups shortening
? teaspoon salt
6 cups powdered/confectioner's sugar
? cup margarine, softened
3 teaspoons vanilla

Mix all ingredients together except 4 cups of sugar. Add gradually.
