ergo vs. beco butterfly 2

HI there, I am expecting my first baby soon and sometimes come over and lurk here.  The women on the natural birth board suggested this would be a good place to ask a carrier question.  I really want to be able to carry my baby as much as possible.  However, I have two herniated discs in my lower lumber and want to make sure I have a really supportive carrier. I was sure I wanted and Ergo, but then people started suggesting the Beco for me because I am quite tall (6' and DH is even taller).  Beco isn't sold near me, so I can't really go check it out.  I would love any feedback on which carrier experienced moms suggest.   I used an Ergo with a friend's baby a few times and thought it was great, but was a little worried that it may not be the best for really tall parents.

Re: ergo vs. beco butterfly 2

  • I'm 5'5''.  I did not like the Ergo at all.  I thought it was a pain and I could never get my DD in the back carry.  I love my Beco.  It's easy to use.  The best part is the panel on the inside that you can clip on over baby.  This makes it so much easier to get baby into a  back carry and to switch between parents.

I started with an Ergo but didn't find it comfortable.  It bothered my back.  I then purchased the beco butterfly 2 and LOVE IT!!!  It is comfortable and also cooler than the ergo for both ds and I.
  • I just spent a whole week on vacation and used my beco BB2 everyday. We only got out the stroller once. I find it super comfy, and so does LO.
  • I recently tried both of them on vacation with my nieces and nephews.  I slightly preferred the ergo.  I am only 5' 2" though, so I can't help you in the height department.  I really liked them both, but DH preferred the ergo, so that is what we are going to go with.  Good luck!
