2nd Trimester

2nd time moms who live in 2 story homes...

If your baby room is on a different level than your living room, will you have a rocker in the baby room and the living room? We live in a 2 story condo (with bedrooms upstairs) We obviously plan to put a rocker in the baby room, but would it be beneficial to have one downstairs in the living room as well? I am clueless what is needed. Would we really need 2 chairs?

  • I don't think you will need two chairs. I rocked mine while sitting on the couch. My leg motion was the rocker. :)

  • To be honest, we didn't get that much use out of our rocker. I would wait and see if you end up using your's a lot before purchasing a second one. I don't think you would really need two chairs.... if your baby really likes to be rocked when upset, go upstairs and use the one in the room.

  • We lived in a 2 story when DD was tiny. We had one rocking chair in our room (she slept in there until we moved). I didn't feel like we needed one downstairs, we had a super comfy arm chair we'd settle in and I would kind of lightly bounce her, or if she really needed motion we'd walk.

  • We only had the rocker/glider in the nursery.  I never missed it downstairs.  Most of the time we were fine nursing or hanging out on the couch.  If they really needed rocking while we were downstairs, we used the swing or bouncer or just went up to the nursery.

  • We only have one and it's been in their bedrooms.

  • A friend of mine has the rocker upstairs with a swing downstairs. My rocker is upstairs.

  • Ours will be upstairs. I hardly ever used it because G didn't like it until he was a much older baby.  I either bounced him myself or put him in his swing (which he loved).

  • We only had one and it was in the bedroom.  I rocked while standing or created the motion while sitting.

  • Our bedrooms are all on the second level.  We are not putting a rocker up there at all.  With three other kids who also sleep, nap and play up there, it's not practical for us.  We have one in the living room.  I'm hoping to keep bigger items to a minimum this time.  I want to simplify!

Honestly, I never really used the one rocker we had all that much. I preferred to nurse in bed or on the couch. Our rocker broke when we moved a couple of months ago, and I'm not sure we'll even replace it.

  • I got two rocker/recliners and I use the heck out of both of them.  One in the living room and one in the nursery.  My DS is 1 and I still use the one in the nursery at night if he wakes up.

I plan on getting another one (hopefully if $ allows it) so I can keep the one in DS's room and have another one in the nursery.

  • I have a rocker in the living room AND upstairs in the baby's room, and it was something I insisted on. When I was home with the baby on maternity leave, I didn't want to be stuck upstairs all the time. I insisted on the perfect glider with foot stool for my living room, and it was one of the best purchases we made. Get one for both room's if you can!

  • Our rrecliner/rocker is in the living room...right outside my bedroom where the baby will sllep in the cradle we have for the first few months. Once old enough the crib is upstairs. I have just always carried the baby upstairs once asleep. I like having the rocker in the liveing room since all my kids will eventually share a room (if I end up with 3 boys). Their bedroom is twice the size of the master bedroom...lol. They are the kings of the house for sure.

  • We have a rocker/glider in DS's room upstairs that I really only used at night until he figured out how to kick the armrest while nursing (about 5 mos. or so). After that, I nursed him in the twin bed that we have in his room. It will be going into the new nursery as it doesn't get used now.

We have a rocking recliner downstairs in our living room that I used a lot, especially for napping (he wouldn't nap in his crib until 6 mos.). I still use it with him a couple times a week if he wakes up early from a nap and we sit and rock and he usually falls back asleep.

It was also wonderful for napping in towards the end of my pregnancy with DS when I had bad heart burn.
