We have a family vacation coming up in a couple of weeks and H and I are planning to get the kids to the beach and/or lake a couple of times.
We do have a tent thing we plan to keep DS under, but I am concerned about reflective sunlight and also when I take him in the water.
I know sunscreen or sunblock is preferable to a burn, but I also know you're not "supposed" to use it on babies under 6 months.
So, what are you doing?
Re: Are you using sunscreen/block on LO?
You are supposed to keep them out of the sun as much as possible, but if they are going to be exposed, you should put sunblock on (physical block) rather than sunscreen (chemical block). You have to look at the ingredients on the bottle because they interchange the terms all the time. you want something with zinc oxide or titanium dioxide for kids under 6 mos (or those with sensitive skin).
When I am not able to keep her in the shade I use Water Babies, and have since she was 3 months.
we've been putting sunscreen on him since 2 months. My pedi said it was fine.
My pedi says not to use it until 6 months - my DD has ridiculously sensitive skin as it is, and we're worried about a reaction - but when we start, we'll use Neutrogena Pure and Free Baby (I've already purchased it).
For now, DD just stays inside most of the time, and if we're out and about, she's under a shade and wearing a big hat. I don't do well in the sun anyway, due to my very fair skin, so we just sit on a shady porch if we're outside.

We mostly just keep her covered and in the shade.
This is what we use.
