2nd Trimester

partial placenta previa at 20 weeks

Anyone else or know anyone else who has been diagnosed with this?  What was the outcome?  Right now the placenta is covering half of the cervical opening.  The doc didn't really seem all that positive about it moving out of the way which I thought was the case with most.  I am scheduled for another us in 5 weeks to see if theres been any movement.  If it doesnt move I know that a section will be my only option. My doc didn't say anything about bedrest but i've been reading that if it doesnt clear by 30 weeks then bedrest is usually reccommended. Any experiences to share?

Re: partial placenta previa at 20 weeks

  • I had complete previa with DD and it never moved up. I had a scheduled c-section at 37 weeks and was never put on bed rest. But I was obviously on pelvic rest for the pregnancy. It really varies depending on each person and their complications. I had no other complications other than delivery.

  • Did not actually have it but had a very low lying placenta. They rechecked at 28 weeks and it moved up to where it was supposed to be. I hope it moves up for you!

  • I had it with my first pregnancy and it moved by the time I had a follow up appointment at 28 weeks.  I'm surprised your dr wasn't positive about it, bc I thought it wasn't much of a concern until 30 weeks or so.

  • I had placenta previa with my last pregnancy and it was just discovered again for this pregnancy. In the first pregnancy they checked me again starting around 26-28 wks and then again I believe around 32 weeks? and discovered it had moved up completly. I never had any complications nor was I put on bed rest (I did NOT have bleeding with it either). I just had a check up today and my doc went over the u/s results and put me on "Light Restriction" which means no high impact (switch to walking no more running), no heavy lifting (above 45-50 lbs) and no sex (sooooooo upset right now about this one!!). I am scheduled to be checked again at 27 wks and it is a "wait and see" game right now. My doc said he would not be placing me on bed rest unless I start to exhibit other symptoms (such as bleeding). He ALSO explained that I may not need a c-section that they could instead induce labor a little bit earlier than my due date. This way they can monitor my cervix and bleeding versus spontaneously going into labor at home. (This is actually the 1st I have heard of that because normally I have read its an automatic section). I hope some of this helps! Of course every doctor is different but I wish you the best of luck!!

  • I have had this issue 3 times and thankfully they all moved before labor started. I have had it stay covering almost right up to the last week before I was in labor. I have had no c-sections with all of them. You still have plenty of time for it to move. I hope it all works out well.
