Trouble TTC

Meds Question -- WW3TD?

For IUI #1 I produced 3 follicles before trigger -- one at 18mm and two at 13mm on the day of trigger. I'm not sure that the 13's really stood a chance to mature before the IUI.

The whole point of putting me on Femara & Menopur was to help me produce more than 1 mature follicle since I already ovulate on my own.

I have been trying to get in touch with my RE this week to ask if it would make sense to increase the meds for my next cycle to get more than 1 mature follicle.

The nurse called me back today and basically said the RE would do whatever I want -- I can stick to the same protocol as before (2.5mg Femara & 75iu Menopur) or increase the Menopur to 150iu. I only do 1 day of Menopur (CD9).

So, I don't really feel qualified to make that decision! Any thoughts or experiences with increasing Menopur on one day?

Re: Meds Question -- WW3TD?

  • I don't have any advice, but I am going through a similar dilemma. I O on my own, but since we have such severe MFI I want more then 1 follie for our next IUI (if this one is a fail). I only had one at 18 or 19mm and the other 13mm I dont think matured in time. I started on 100mg of clomid but I don't know if I should request 150mg or got o femara. I am just afraid of OHSS. Anyways, hopefully you come to a solution soon! I would be interested to know about your thought process once you do.

  • Hmmm... I don't know anything about Menopur, so I'm no help there :-(  The RE won't give advice one way or the other for what they'd think is best?  It sounds like they think it's OK to increase, but are there risks/worse side effects with the increase?

I just hope whatever they do results in this cycle being it for you!

That is what is so frustrating! The RE was fine with how this cycle went, even with only 1 mature follicle. That seems bizarre to me since we were aiming for more than 1 mature follicle. But she seems to be open to increasing the dosage if that's what I want. I like that she's giving me some opportunity for input, but I guess I just want her to feel like it's a good idea. haha

I get that - I'd want to feel like my doctor thinks a meds increase is a good idea, too!

  • I am in the same boat! I did my first IUI last week with 50 mg clomid and only got one mature follicle (I didn't have any others that were measurable).  I was disapointment.  If this one doesn't work, I am going to ask my doctor to increase the dose to hopefully get a couple follicles so we have some additional "targets".  Needless to say, I don't think you are out of line to increase the dosage!

    Good luck!
