Is DH pregnant or me?!

DH has been SOOOOO crabby for the last few days!

He is "sick" and I say "sick" because he coughs a few times and then repeats 32905823 times "I'm getting sick" and "I don't feel good".  How is it that men are so whiny about being sick?

I would swear he's pregnant and not me.  He got mad because my mom said she was guessing we were having a boy and when I asked why he was rolling his eyes because he said "I just want it to be HEALTHY!" I was like well so do I...but I don't see anything wrong with people just making a guess and he said "Its just stupid to guess...what is the point?"

Thank goodness I'm going out of town this weekend...maybe he will have time to cool his jets and "get better" lol

Re: Is DH pregnant or me?!

  • When I was pregnant with my first, DH got more pregnant than I did. Every symptom I suffered from he had something that topped it. I had awful heartburn, he took my maalox for me. It was bad. It got to the point where I was yelling at him to just let me be pregnant and miserable by myself. Men do not handle being sick well. Ever. They are such babies about it!

  • This sounds like my husband too! ha ha. He has also had more food cravings than me. We had to go to jack in the box at 11pm because he had to have a burger and mini churros! LOL.

  • This sounds like it could be Couvade Syndrome to me. Couvade syndrome, which is also known as sympathetic pregnancy, male pregnancy experience, or "pregnant dad syndrome," refers to a condition in which a father-to-be experiences some of the physical symptoms of pregnancy prior to the baby's birth. The term couvade comes from the French verb couver, which means "to brood," in the sense of a bird protecting its eggs before they hatch. Ritual couvade is no longer observed in most developed countries, but the term couvade syndrome has been applied to the physical symptoms that many men in these countries experience during a wife's pregnancy, ranging from mild nausea or backaches to weight gain or food aversions/cravings.

I already had to quit buying ice cream...he was eating more than me! Both of us don't need to put on weight for the baby! LOL

  • Oh my goodness, my DH is exactly the same way!  I got my first little bit of morning sickness and all of a sudden he's super pukey.

  • I've asked myself the same question many times!  My SO is so emotional and crabby its rediculous! He gets more hormonal than me I swear!   Good luck with your DH, its so frustrating!

  • I'm going to address the "It's stupid to guess" comment because I'm a little on the same page as your DH but it's with an alterior motive.  If one were say... secretly hoping for one gender but feeling guilty about it (How dare I want one over the other - of course I would love a boy/girl the same, I'm doing a disservice to my unborn child by expressing a preference before I know)... then you might feel that people guessing or yourself guessing might feel like you are "jinxing" it one way or the other.

DH and I got into an argument about this as well.  I *think* we both want a boy - but neither of us will fully admit it for the above reason.  So I get upset when he refers to baby bean as "he" or "him" because I want us to be prepared for the 50% possibility of a girl as well.

  • Lol this is a funny subject to me. with my first pregnancy my husband had sympathy weight gain i only gained 20lbs and he gained close to 35lbs and it was very obvious. i think its going to be the same way with this pregnancy also :-)
