So, I have a consumer reports membership and the baby bargain book...and basically they contradict each other regarding crib brands in terms of ratings.
I just don't know what to go with now and feel overwhelmed at picking this out. So, if you feel like it, please recommend your crib and why you chose it!
What we are looking for safety issues: preferably not dark wood. So, a honey or natural color. White would be the back-up. And, while price doesn't matter to us, if it is expensive we would probably prefer a convertible crib.
TIA

We used baby bargains and went with this Europa set made by Lajobi. In this book, it was top rated and now that I have it all set up and in the nursery, I love it. It is great quality, sturdy and it came assembled (minus the crib which took hubby about 30 minutes to put together). I looked for furniture that doesn't scratch easily and can't be blown over. This satisfied both my requirements. Plus its beautiful!
We got all three pieces in the set for a little over 1,000 and that was after sales and discounts which saved me about 400 dollars. Its a convertable as well.
We went with the Graco Lauren.
It got an A from baby bargains, it got top reviews on all the websites, and it was cheap! It's a convertible but we weren't specifically looking for a convertible. I wanted something safe, looked nice, and wasn't expensive, this did the trick!
It's by no means fancy furniture. If you're looking for solid wood, it's not for you. But it doesn't look cheap at all and it's plenty sturdy, I'm happy with it.
Walmart's website will give you the best price. DH was not thrilled with buying the crib from Walmart, he's very anti-Walmart, but it's the crib we wanted and the price was unbeatable from WM.
We got the Graco Lauren as well-- for $87 thru CSN we couldn't refuse that. We aren't looking for lifelong furniture for our child though... I doubt our child will be using it as a bed down the road since I don't really want to buy full-sized mattresses for it. We'll deal with buying bedframes for twin beds later on. Ours has yet to be assembled so I can't tell you what we think of it yet.
We also plan on getting a dresser from Jordans (it's being sold for $299 and seems pretty decent)-- it's not available in stores so we are buying it on whim and hoping it works out.
We went with the Carragio collection by Creations Baby. I don't think Baby Bargains even gave them a rating because of shipping problems in the past. I actually didn't look them up until after we put the order in because I trusted the store I bought from.
We ordered it 3 weeks ago and it has already been delivered to the store's warehouse. We are having the furniture delivered next Thursday, so I will know then how it looks!

We got the Graco Lauren and the matching changing table too ... ours is Espresso, but as PP said, I believe they come in lighter colors as well.
Great ratings for a really good price
We just put them both together last weekend and they are very sturdy and nice looking... So far so good...and our Serta matress fits perfectly in it
Ours is a convertible too, but that wasnt a huge priority... it's nice to have, and I could see myself maybe using it through the toddler stage... but not as a lifelong bed necessarily... we'll see. Depends on when/if we have a second baby and if we'd rather just put it back to a crib to re-use for that.
