I have been lurking for a few days and decided that since I have some questions I want to do an intro, even though I hate writing it. I want to say I am sorry for the loss that all the women posting/lurking on this board have gone through. I hate that a board like this even has to exist, but I know this isn't a world of puppydogs and rainbows where everything ends happily, so I am happy that it is here for people to have a place to learn and get support.
My EDD was 11-16-11. Everything was going fine, had seen and heard the heartbeat, a little bit of morning sickness but everything normal. We went in at 18 weeks 1 day to get ultrasound and would be finding out boy or girl. We did find out we were having a little girl, but got terrible news as well. Our baby had a neural tube defect known as anencephaly. Of course we had never heard of this so our Dr. explained to us it is a malformation of the brain and skull. Basically the skull doesn't close and the baby often only has a brain stem and the other lobes of the brain don't develop. The survival rate is 0%. We chose for me to be induced and go ahead and deliver our baby. I went into the hospital on Thursday night and Baby Lennon was born still on Saturday morning. This was my first pregnancy, that we tried for 8 cycles to achieve, so emotionally this was the worst thing that has ever happened to either myself or DH. We haven't yet decided what lies ahead for us on the TTC journey.
Physically I feel I am bouncing back great. I have had no pain at all since the D&C and really only bled heavily for the first day afterward, it has been moderate/mild bleeding throughout this week. So my question for you ladies that have been through parts of this struggle as well, is how long does the bleeding last? I know there isn't a straight answer for that just looking for a range.
Re: Intro and question about bleeding
I am so sorry for your loss. I bled on and off for about 2.5 weeks after my D&C. Just when I thought it was over it would start again. It was never heavy and some days was just staining/spotting, but it did last 2.5 weeks. Like you I bounced back fine after the procedure. I didn't have to even take a Tylenol or anything. I got AF exactly 4 weeks after the D&C.
My thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time. This board has been a great source of strength for me these last miserable few weeks. Feel free to post when you want to. The ladies here are fab.

so sorry for your loss:( My EDD was 11/29 so really close to yours and technically speaking I had my D&C at 16 weeks. But mine is a long story and I really found out the baby was lost much earlier (at my 9 week US). I bled for 5.5 weeks before my D&C and only 2 days after. I think it's very variable.
Hugs to you and I hope you can begin to heal emotionally as well as physically.
