If you take cycling/spinning classes...

... does it KILL your girly bits???  YOWZA!!  I went to a spinning class for the first time today and while the workout was killer, I couldn't even concentrate on the spinning part b/c my crotch was hurting SO FREAKING BAD from that seat!!!

I seriously feel like someone kicked me in the crotch.  I know you can get a gel seat, but it's the first time I took the class and  I'm not sure how I feel about it (really b/c of the freaking crotch damage) so I don't want to spend $$ on something I may not use.

Did I do something wrong?  Does it get better the more you do it?  The class kicked my arse (which I desperately need), but the thought of inflicting more pain on my girly bits is making me not want to go back!!!

Re: If you take cycling/spinning classes...

  • For me it was more of my butt that hurts after a spinning class. IMO, it does it get better...or at least tolerable.

  • If I remember correctly my first class that did hurt, but not again. Were you in the seat for most of it, or did you have a lot of jumps and (out of the saddle) hills? My a$s always kills after a class, but that is a good thing :)

I would say that more time was spent in the seat, although we did do a fair amount of hills (out of the saddle).  I feel like maybe I was sitting on the seat weird or something?  I guess the pain is more between the crotch/butt area (sounds pretty I know!)... I am just surprised by how uncomfortable it was/is! :(

  • I took one several years ago, not recently.  Mine hurt, then towards the end of class, got numb.  Like, a falling asleep feeling.  The pain stopped but the numbness wouldn't.  I mean, it would get numb during class every time.
  • Also, did the instructor adjust the bike for you? That REALLY helps if not - it is hard to tell on your own the level that the handlebars and seat should be, and it definitely hurts if you have it wrong.

She did adjust it for me, but I think the seat still may have been too high... like there was TOO much pressure on that area even when sitting if that makes any sort of sense.

So maybe once I feel like the 'region' (lol) has recovered, I will give it a try again with a lower seat?  I really do love that it kicked my arse, just don't want the kicked crotch to go with it ;-)

  • I would definitely try it again. I would ask the instructor to adjust again, too (telling her how much it hurt this time). Spin took me a few classes to get into, but now I love it. A lot depends on the teacher, and music, though. I been to Spin classes that are awful.

  • I know some people complain about it, but I've been spinning for 2 years several times a week and have never had this problem.  Try adjusting the seat further forward or back next time, and try to squeeze your thighs and keep your knees angled in to see if that helps.

  • It sounds like you might not have had the seat set up correctly.  The seats move forward and back.  Have the instructor help you with the bike set up.  For me it took a couple of classes to have the bike set up properly for me.

  • It hurts the first couple of classes.  The more you take it the less it hurts.  I take it 1-2x a week and it never hurts now.  Good Luck!
