Any runners in Texas?

I am not a runner or jogger...but I want to start.  I live in Dallas and even at 8 PM at night...the temp is still above 80 degrees.

If you are in Texas...how do you run i the summer months?  I am not interested in the treadmill since I am looking for something I can do with my LO.

TIA!

  • Ummm I agree haha!  I run in the fall-spring and then take the summers off and start up again the following Fall.  The summers are too hot and now with the little one its def too hot for him as well.  I work out at home using Insanity, 30DS, and occasionally I will do P90X as well.

  • I lived in Austin for 3 years, and the early mornings were the only time I could run.  And I mean early - like 5:30 a.m.  Probably too early for you and your LO though.

I am a former distance/marathon runner living in Dallas, and for long training runs, we used to get up as early as 4AM to go run. I did some runs in the afternoons too; my body adjusted and I drank a lot of water.

  • I live in south Texas and run all year long.  In the summer, it is unbelievably hot, but I run early!  I run with my friends at 5 or 5:30am before work.  I'm not sure how I'll fit in the early runs once the baby comes.  On the weekends, I go around 6:30 or 7am, which might be okay for taking your baby out in a stroller.  It's just starting to get light and it's not as hot as it will be later in the day.
  • My DH runs in this TX heat...but he gets up at 5:00am to do so.  No thanks...I'll just have one less donut for breakfast Indifferent

I lived in Dallas for 10 years and Austin for 2 years and trained for half marathons in both cities. During the hot months - sometimes April through October - I would do my running in the morning, normally around 6am.  It was the only time of day it was bearable for me to run.

  • I'm also in Dallas. Pre-baby I would get up and run very early, between 5-6. My husband is also a runner so we're having a hard time figuring out long runs with LO, as we were both so used to 6 am long runs at White Rock on Saturdays. We're trying to work it out where one of us stays home with LO for long runs as the heat is just too much, not to mention not wanting to wake him up to drag him to the lake for 2 hours! During the week I try to get out with him around 7, but with the heat just getting worse, I think there will be more treadmill days. There is a great stroller fan that I attach to the jogging stroller that works pretty well, but I would still suggest mornings over evenings. It really doesn't cool down much at all in the evenings.
