Success after IF

DS went to school in underwear

Holy crap.

This is how his school does potty training (actually the Montessori word is "toileting" or "toilet learning" -- one of the other teachers said, "Training is what you do with your dog." Ooookay...Hahaha). No Pull-ups, just send them in their underwear and give the teachers a heads up.

For whatever reason, he's been having successes at school lately (so much more so than at home), so when he requested to wear underwear to school, we went with it. But I am so freaking anxious about it!! I just don't want him to feel too much pressure or like he's failing. He does NOT seem to feel that he's failed when he goes in his pants, though. Where he worries is performance on the potty. If he can't go, he is disappointed. I'm not sure he sees it as a problem when he wets/poops his pants! He just asks to be changed...usually. (Hence our great frustration when he has worn underwear at home.)

So we sent 10 changes of pants and underwear. They requested 6. I'm not sure 10 is going to be enough! I've been checking my phone all day to see if they've called to say they've run out... Stick out tongue

I just really really really hope this is it for him -- that this is the right time and the right way. I'm a wreck today!

yay!!  how exciting!  how old is he?  Sam has been giving me a heck of a fight with diaper changing lately, so I decided to get him a potty chair to start "experimenting" with.  I know they say with boys, 3 is about the age to try, but I'm naively hoping Sam will get it done early.  Like now, would be good :):)

That's so endearing that he has performance anxiety and not accident anxiety!  I bet he's well on his way.

  • E, he just turned 3 at the beginning of the month. I actually think we could have trained him a long time ago, but we didn't want to push... Not entirely certain it was the right way to go, but given the whole sibling thing, he probably would have regressed anyway. We'll see how it goes...BUT...

Just hung up the phone with DH. He's on his way home...two hours early. Surprisingly NOT because he has run out of pants (though I don't know how many he's been through). He is in the principal's office complaining that his tummy hurts.

    He has not pooped.

This means he's holding back. Again.

I look forward (sarcasm) to an evening filled with washing puke laundry because that's what happens when this happens. *sigh*

Poor guy. (And poor us, too!)

Ooooh poor pumpkin!!  Gosh it's so much for the little ones to learn.  I'm not looking forward to to potty learning itself but certainly to the accomplishment of it!

Remind me - are you in a Montessori in Seattle? We're very happy with our DC/pre-school, but perhaps in another year or two we may consider that approach if it seems more suited to Sam. Feel free to email if you want to take it off line.

  • Whoa!! I can't wait to hear how it went!!
  • Although DS is not in school, I know exactly how you feel!  Potty training is hands down one of the hardest things I have ever had to do (and I am not even the one actually doing it).

Our DS was having zero accidents up until a few weeks ago and now he refuses to poop in the potty and is back to having a few pee pee accidents.  He throws a FIT if I suggest putting him back in diapers.  He will take a diaper off if I put him in it.  He is content in going in his underwear or pull-up.  I have taken every approach known to man (some make me feel terrible because I am at my witts end).

I hope he feels better soon and YAY for every step closer to being fully able to go on the potty :)

It took over four years to be diagnosed with PCOS. We TTC #1 for 18 months, did 5 rounds of Clomid and finally moved onto IVF...which worked! Throughout our IF journey, we suffered 3 miscarriages. We conceived both DD and DS without treatment.

Not sure what to make of how it went. He started the day off well -- peed on the potty at home before going to school, then at 10am and 11:30am at school. But at 12:30, he pooped in his pants (apparently whomever DH spoke with at the school was mistaken that he had not pooped). From that point on, he wet his pants two times but also went in the potty during one of the changes.

Then DH brought him home, and he promptly pooped TWICE back-to-back in his pants. He also peed in the potty during one of the changes. Then before bedtime, he again peed in his pants. We had him sit on the potty several times, but he didn't go.

So the day's tally is 5 successes, 6 accidents.

DH made him help clean out his underwear after the second poop at home, and it didn't phase him one bit. (DH is on a big "take responsibility for your actions" kick... DS also cleaned up the food he intentionally pushed onto the floor during dinner, for instance.)

Guess we'll see what tomorrow brings! :::deep breaths:::

I hope that this potty training approach works like Ferber does for many people...that the first day is rough and it gets better from there! :)  Thanks for the update!  I think this is really interesting (like the 3 day potty bootcamp approach)!
