Anyone's Toddler Have a Camera?

My DS is obsessed with taking pictures, looking at pictures of himself and us, etc. He needs his own toddler camera :) I have been looking online and have seen one by VTech (I think..maybe it's LeapFrog) and also by Fisher Price. Just wondering if anyone's DC has one and they could offer recommendations.

  • Joey is totally obsessed with taking pictures!! We got him the fisher price"kid tough" camera for christmas, and honestly he could kind of care less about it..it may be tough, but the pictures REALLY suck, and he knows how to work the old crappy digital we had better, so we let him use that...and i think he just knew that was a "toy" camera...he wanted the real thing. He finally did break the old one, but it was an old hand-me-down one anyways, we didn't use it...i think i am going to scour garage sales for crappy used ones now, haha!

My nephew wanted a camera but, he wanted a "real" one and kept calling the toddler cameras baby cameras.

So, my sister shopped block Friday sales, found a cheap digital camera for something like $15, stocked up on them (I think she got 3 or 4 in case he broke one) and wrapped one up for Christmas.

He loves that thing so much!

We have the fisher price one.  I didn't think the pics were too bad.  She really loves it :)

  • We bought DD the Vtech Kidizoom Camera when she was 22 months.  She had learned how to turn on my camera and take pictures.  I was so afraid of her breaking my camera I figured it was time for one of her own.

The Vtech is a cute camera and it's easy to use.  At first she would hold it the wrong way and we ended up with a million pictures of her face and up her nose but she's getting better at holding it the right way:)  The picturs are a bit grainy but I think it's because she's always moving when she takes pictures.  It is a $40 kids camera so my expectations were appropriate for the quality of the photos.

It has a few games and cute grapics you can add to the pictures but that stuff is too advanced for her at this point. It can also take video and zoom (the zoom seems to reduce the quality of the picture but once again it's a kids camera).  It doesn't have a removable card so you have to plug it into the computer to upload the pictures. It's durable and has survived several falls on the cement and wood floor.  We recently uploaded all of the pictures and it was cool to see the world from her point of view.  I think it's a great toddler camera.

  • Madilynn gave Reagan one in the hospital after she was born :)  It is the one from Vtech and she LOVES it!  She too was obsessed with pictures, so it was perfect for her.  And it is incredibly durable--she bangs it all around and it still works great.
