Hi ladies, I'm a big time lurker and know that you'll be very honest here. Is it cruel and unusual to name a future child Apollo? Or is that best suited as a middle name?
It's a name that you'd have to be really comfortable with though. I get some side eye's when people see that we've spelled DD's name the traditional way, people either LOVE it or change the subject. I could care less. Apollo is going to be the same. People will either love and and think it's totally cool, or will raise their eyebrows. As long as you don't care that it's not necessarily a crowd pleaser, than I say go for it!

not my preference, but i don't think it's cruel. i immediately thought of the u.s. olympian speed skater apollo ono.
This. It's a strong, bold name and I think that he has made it that way. Kind of cool. Like pp said, people will either love it or raise eyebrows. Who cares? If you like it, it's not cruel and something that your child will be a serial killer because of. I say go for it.
Re: Apollo
I personally LOVE it

Cruel and unusual? No. But that still doesn't make it the best idea.
I don't like it for a first name--it's just... a lot to live up to.
I like the name, but PP is right that you would have to be okay with the side eyes.

Cute for a pet, not for a 45-year old stockbroker.
