Question for those with toddlers

Hey--Not to compare my dog to your sweet toddler or anything, but I have a 36lb dog that is very hyper.  I just bathed him and my back hurts already, which makes me nervous.  I'm just asking because they may be in the same weight range.  What did your dr tell you about lifting or doing anything like that?  Thanks!

Re: Question for those with toddlers

  • I would definitely ask your Doctor, but I carry around my 30 lb toddler a lot still (its still so early in the pregnancy)- and I imagine I will continue to do so for the rest of the pregnancy. Just take it easy and listen to your body. If you are really achy or just feeling off, maybe have your DH take over the dog washing duties... at least for the most part, my kids don't wriggle. I cannot picture trying to give a bath to a wriggly 36 lb dog with wet fur. :-)

SHUT THE FRONT DOOR! I didn't know you were KTFU B! Congrats lady. As for the lifting, because of my history I was restricted to 20lbs max. I would definitely check with your doctor.

Hey gf!  I didn't make an announcement or anything, because I haven't been posting much lately.  I kind of fell off the face of the earth on here and fb.  Love your beautiful sig!

And thanks for the advice, yall!  I'm thinking right now it was the awkward way I was squatting over, but of course it still worries me!  I'll ask the dr just to be safe!

Aw thanks! It's always hard to pick a picture because she's pretty much the best thing ever.

I was wondering why I had one less FB friend Wink I'm totally going to "accidentally" click on the wrong board more often now.

Aww!  Yeah, it got really hard to do FB.  I haven't even introd on PGAL because I hardly know anyone anymore, and they're all so far along.  I'm doing Lovenox, extra folic acid, and B vitamins this time around so I'm praying it will do the trick!  I've read good things about it but I've had such horrible experiences I don't want to get my hopes up!  I checked your blog recently but you haven't posted in a while!

  • I'm going to get creepy TB stalkerish on this and tell you that I'm super happy for you! I was a not terribly regular poster on PGAL and TTCAL with my  last pregnancy and remember your "face."

My guy is only about 20lbs and I've gotten the lifting okay for the time being. I'm also on Lovenox and extra folic acid. Yay for handfuls of pills and shooting up everyday!

Aww, thank you!  Were you on Lovenox before?  Gotta love those Lovenox bruises...I took some pics and if this kid sticks around, I'm going to remind him/her everything I went through to have a baby!

Yup, yup, lovenox helped me get my take home baby! Technically right now I'm on Heparin (twice a day injections, yipee!) because this was a surprise baby and I happened to have a months worth left over from last time. My poor stomach already looks like DH beats me but it's so worth it!

  • I think most Dr's give a standard 25 lb restriction.  My son weighs 28 lbs and I'm used to carrying him all the time so I just continue to pick him up as needed but I probably wouldn't be picking up at 36 lb dog that you aren't used to carrying around.  Obviously it's too late now for what you've already done, and I'm sure everything is fine (aside from the sore back) but just for future reference.

This exactly! Ryan weighs 28lbs and still loves me to carry him so I will as long as I'm able. I know they grow up too fast so I want to hold him as long as he'll let me!

  • I don't think it matters unless you are having issues such as bleeding.  I carry and will continue to carry my 30lb boy for the next 9 months!

Hmm...this is true, haven't thought about that.  Today was mostly pushing him in the tub & trying to get him to cooperate, so I don't think I technically lifted 36lbs, but I'm going to be more careful!
