Moms with Stomach Tattoos :)

Hello,

I apologize in advance if this isn't the right board for this question. I promise I looked around first.

I got a tattoo near my left hipbone when I was 19. At the time, I truly thought I'd never want to have children (ha!). Flash forward 11 years. DH and I are TTC. I'm starting to get a little nervous about how my currently 2"x4" tattoo is going to look after 9 months of stretching.

Any moms out there who can share their experiences? I'm not terribly vain about it but I'm hoping it will still be recognizable after the birth. :)

Thanks in advance!

  • LOL!  Yes it will go back to normal....believe it or not.  I have one on my right hip/lower stomach almost and by the time I was 8-9 months last time around, I was convinced it was never going to look normal again, along with everything else on my body!  But it is amazing how it all goes back.  Not to worry!!

  • Thanks a lot, seaturtle! I know there's no use in worrying since I'm not even PG yet but it's totally my personality. :)

  • My sister has a small tattoo on the front side of her hip.. Post-pregnancy, it did go back to normal, only hers has a stretch mark through it. Nothing hard to have touched-up though! You'll be ok.

  • My sister had two on her lower abdomen right above her bikini line and they were pretty unrecognizable after her first pregnancy.  She did gain a lot of extra weight though.  I think it depends on the person though.  Some people's skin is more forgiving than others.

  • I have one that is about 3x3 and four inches or so straight below my belly button.  Believe it or not, it barely changed during the pregnancy because I carried very high.  I don't think you have much to worry about!  Good luck TTC!

  • I had the same question!  I hve one by my right hip bone just above my bikini line.  When I got mine in college I asked the tattoo artist what would happen when I got pregnant.  He told me it would stretch with my skin and then when my skin went back it'd go back.  (He did warn that if I stayed. . . big. . . for lack of a better way to put it. . it would too.)  So I'm keeping my fingers crossed.  Glad to hears other's tattoos fared fine.  :)

  • Mine didn't even stretch but it is pretty low too. I ended up with a c-section and the doctor missed cutting right through it by about 1/4 of an inch. I could truly careless about it even had he cut through it. No one really sees it anyway. I forget it is there.
