I have never been a member of either one, but I am trying to decide which would be best for diapers, formula, etc. What are advantages or disadvantages? Opinions??
Maybe compare them online? We don't have a Costco in our area but I am a member at Sams. I know they have deals if you order online and you get free shipping. Ive always been very impressed with the in store deals too. It truly does save me a ton of money.

Costco has huggies and SAMs has Pampers. But Costco sends out a coupon book monthly, SAMs does not. Both have great deals, but I am a Costco person. Their store brand has never let us down, and I normally always buy name brand. I hope this helps!

My brother and best friend both swear by the Costco brand diapers, Kirkland, they say they are better than pampers if you are doing disposable. I know they will send you diaper samples if you want to test them out!
I am a Costco person. We had a Sam's here for awhile but they didn't do very well and closed down. I didn't like the quality of their stuff - kind of felt like having to pay for a membership to shop at a Walmart. Yes, Costco is more expensive (and I can't get out of there with a bill under a few hundred dollars....eek!), but the brands are top of the line, quality is excellent, and return policy is awesome.
They sell Huggies brand at Costco, and Costco's own Kirkland brand diapers and wipes are made by Huggies, just sold under the Kirkland name for way cheaper (I worked at Costco to put myself through university so I know a lot of "Kirkland" secrets). Huggies diapers never fit properly on DD, but we did buy their Kirkland wipes which were thick, soft, and never dry for $16.99 for a 700 count box. DD stopped wearing diapers 2 years ago and we still have left over wipes for this baby.

We have Sam's and I like it. I've never been in a Costco though, so I really can't compare the two. I agree with comparing prices of the things you want to buy online. Sam's is much closer to us so it was really our only option. The only thing I don't like about Sams is that they don't take Visa credit cards, only Visa debit. But they take MC & Discover. I just think it's really strange and kind of annoying.
I have been a member of both, so I have a good deal of experience. My preference is for Costco, but it depends on the merchandise/products you want.
Costco has a better quality bakery (IMO). Their "Kirkland Signature" brand is also really great quality. Their packaged soups and frozen goods are really good and tend to be fairly healthy. They try and carry many organic and local produce, and their products tend to be healthier. As I suffer many food allergies, I love that Costco actually has tasty products that are clearly labeled -- ie mild free, gluten free, soy-free, etc. It's one of the few bakeries I've found that has soy-free breads.
I don't get my Rx at either pharmacy, but the OTC generic Kirkland brand drugs are amazingly affordable! Sam's (as of 2 years ago) doesn't carry as many (especially the ones I need of generic Zyrtec and generic Lactaid pills.
I also have found their furniture quality to be superior to Sam's.
Sam's has cheaper stuff (it's owned by Walmart). However, often this is reflected in the quality of merchandise. They won't carry as many healthy items, but loads more junk food.
I will say that Sam's Club's recipe for their rotisserie chicken is far superior to Costco's.

I prefer Costco, and am thrilled that we're getting one soon! I'd choose them for how they treat their employees alone, but I agree with pretty much all of the PPs comments too- more organics, liked Kirkland diapers and wipes, like other Kirkland products, good bakery, coupons, etc.
Huge Costco family here! We absolutely love Costco and even prefer to shop their then to our military commissary. Their produce is hands down the best I've found (well at least here). I agree with pp about the Kirkland brand of things being great and they do tend to have a lot more healthier and/or organic options. I've also heard great things about their diapers and wipes but cannot speak from experience with those. We have never been disappointed with any of our Costco purchases.
