Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Will a child be more like the parent they look like?

I'm just curious, if your LO looks more like you or DH did you find that child's personality also to be more similar to that parent? Like that set of gene's "won out"?

I'm just wondering because DD looks so much like me. Our moms say that we were both easy as babies and so is DD. I'm sort of wondering about when she gets older. DH and I have very different personalities (opposites attract!) so I wonder what she'll be like.

  • I don't know what to say about this except I look just like my mother and I have the personality of my father... I love both of my parents but I'd consider myself quite lucky since my mother is a clutter hound and my dad has terribly bushy eyebrows.  Stick out tongue

  • My husband is a carbon copy of his father, but has a similar personality to his mother.  People often say it's like hearing her words come out of his dad's mouth.  So I don't necessarily think my LO will be just like me because she looks like me.  I guess we'll see!

  • Definitely not necessarily so. I look a lot like my mom, but I am exactly like my father in my personality and mannerisms. Always have been. And my brother is exactly opposite.

  • Your LO's looks come from your genes, but their personality more comes from how they're raised (at least that's what I believe) so I don't think there is much correlation at all. My daughter looks more like my husband though and wouldn't mind if she had his personality. :P

  • I dont think this applies at all.

My mother raised me by herself and we do not know who my biological father is. I look more like my uncle than anyone and do not share many personality traits with my mother (though I admire her greatly). The man my mother thought was my biological father was in my life for only 3 short years. I look somewhat like him and share more personality traits with him than I do my mother. A paternity test proved that he wasnt my father, but when I got back in contact with him a year ago, my two best friends were there when he and I met up. They kept saying, "Are you sure? Because you two look a lot alike, and act the same."

My half-sister looks like her father but acts quite a bit like our mother. My half-sister has had steady, consistent communication with her father's side of the family. They all have varying personalities and have had plenty of opportunity to influence her, yet she takes after our mother the most. Full of sass and snark, that one.

  • I am a spitting image of my mother with my father's personality traits. My daughter is only 8 weeks old but so far she looks just like her daddy and has my personality traits/tendencies.
  • I think it's a toss up.  I look like my mom, but I'm a pretty equal mix of personality traits from both mom and dad.  Drew looks just like DH, but he seems to act more like I did at his age.

    No. Why would they?

I was just curious. I had no idea.

Interesting answers! I had quite the will of steal as a child (still do!) so I'm hoping DD takes on a few of DH's laid back personality traits.
