My dad guessed...

I'm visiting my parents this weekend, and at dinner, my dad offered me wine. I said no (obviously), but I'm not a big drinker anyway, so I didn't think it would be obvious. Later, my dad and I were taking a walk, and he started telling me about a coworker of his who is pregnant after taking Clomid. All of a sudden, he said: "The reason I'm telling you this is that I noticed you didn't drink any wine." I was completely caught off guard, so I said something really smooth like, "Um... yeah." My dad said, "That's good. The first eight weeks are really important. Don't worry, your secret's safe with me." Indifferent

So... I guess my dad knows! LOL! I feel bad about not having told my mom, but we kind of wanted to wait until an ultrasound confirmed that everything's ok before telling anyone. Maybe my dad is psychic.

Has anyone else had someone guess that they're pregnant??

  • Father's intuition is a pretty amazing thing! Your dad is so sweet!

The other day, my colleague (who knows we have been TTC) commented that she like my slacks. I told her those are my fat pants. She said, "Guess it's all those desserts you are eating huh?" I smile and replied, "Probably!" Then she said, "You know, Jan (one of our common friends) asked if you have any news (i.e. baby news) yet." I said, "Not yet." My colleague gave me a smirk. I think she had figured me out, but did not want to out me, which is very nice of her.

  • My Mom guessed last time. I actually didn't want to tell her in case I miscarried. I ended up miscarrying  a couple of weeks after that.

  • I was nervous last night having dinner with MIL and SIL (all our SOs are out of town). I ended up eating a little bit of Greek salad with a minimal amount of feta trying to not get them suspicious. I couldn't really say I was absolutely not going to eat any salad. Lol, they won't be surprised when we do tell them though - I also grabbed the crackers to take home saying it was for my clients.

When my mom was first pregnant, her mom figured it out before my mom did. My parents were visiting my grandparents, and I think she was all tired etc. Anyway, I think it is adorable that your dad won't say anything, and what a special Father's Day present for him!

  • We live about 3 hours away from both my in-laws and my parents.  We'll be seeing both sets of parents in the next couple of weeks, so we're trying to hold off on telling them so we can see them in person.  The other day, I was on the phone with my mom reminding her we were coming up for a wedding in a couple of weeks and we'd be staying with them.  I also told her we had just adopted a second dog that a friend of ours was going to take to the shelter.  She then said, "Why don't you tell Bill (her fiance) your news?"  He thought I was calling to say I was pregnant.  Then my mom says, "Well, are you?  Is that why you guys are coming up here, to tell us you're pregnant?"  I said no, because I really want to tell her in person.  I guess technically, I wasn't lying. Wink We'd been planning on going to the wedding long before we found out we were PG.  The timing has just worked out perfectly that we can tell them in person now.

  • I love how your dad waited until you were alone to mention something.  I hate when people blurt out, "are you pregnant?!?" just because you turn down a drink.  My MIL and some of Justin's semi-distant relatives asked me that a few different times at the family reunion a couple weeks ago (even after MIL asked Justin in private if I was and he said no).  I always want to say, "If I am, do you really think this is the way I want to tell you??"

Anyway, your dad totes sounds like a sweetheart.  And very observant!!
