How long for Alimentum to work?

Help I am so frustrated.

My LO was diagnosed a little over a week ago with a milk protein protein allergy. She had very few symptoms when we switched to formula from EBF except she started to have mucus and a tiny bit of blood in her poop.  In hindsight we also discovered her occasional eczema on her cheeks and redness on her bum was due to the same thing we just didn't know b/c it came and went. But otherwise, happy easygoing baby.

Pedi put her on alimentum last week and said it can take 2 weeks for her digestive system to work itself out. While the eczema and diaper redness cleared, now I have a gassy baby who now seems to have a little trouble pooping and gets pretty fussy. She still has an occasional blood spot and a little mucus (like every other poop). Pedi said that should resolve in another week.

What has been your experience? Once switching to hypoallergenic formula did it take a few weeks or is my pedi crazy?

  • By 2 weeks DS's eczema was reduced significantly...by 3 weeks he had only a few a spots!  He was covered pretty much head to toe with really severe eczema.  I am so pleases with the results it just seemd like it took forever!  GL with your LO.

  • we didn't see much improvement with the powder version but saw results (and LO took to it better) with the Ready to Feed version. I think a couple other ladies on here preferred the RTF version over the powder too.

  • We also use the RTF. I was just curious if it really does take a few weeks to get everything under control.
