Food Allergy

New Here & Sunscreen Question

Hi!  I'm new to this board.  My 10 month old has several food allergies- berries, peanuts, treenuts, eggs, and soy.  We're quickly learning the ropes of navigating food allergies!  What sun screen do you all use for your little ones with allergies.  Most that I thought were going to be safe have different nut oils or berry oils...not so safe for him!  Any recommendations?

  • Hi Kim.  We use California Baby, but it has coconut oil in it, so you may want to avoid it.  Our pediatrician and allergist both recommended the Neutrogena Pure and Clear.  The more natural you try to get, the more risk for food allergy issues!  It is SO frustrating!

  • Thank you!  We were using the California Baby but he's been breaking out from it.  Obviously an issue with the coconut.  I'm going to try the Neutrogena.

This.  It's the only safe one I've found so far (although I didn't look at Whole foods- just Target).  i called Aveeno about their baby sunscreen and while they don't add any nut oils to their products- they basically told me on the phone that there's no way they could promise no cross contamination issues due to their manufacturing processes.

that's what we use but its super thick and my nanny has a hard time with that cream.. i come home and my son looks like a ghost. she never rubs it in properly.

I just purchased the aveeno free and clear b/c it's thinner so hopefully she will rub it in and it won't irritate my son's skin.

Just make sure you get free & clear.

  • We're only tree nut allergy but my DD has done well on CA baby (the coconut oil being in the tree nut allergen family is debatable).  I've also recently tried Badger Baby and so far so good, no flareups or breakouts...and that's cheaper!

I avoid anything with almond oil, etc...but coconut I don't really stay away from.
