hate making phone calls!

Especially when they are work related. Email is so much easier. I have a list of like 30 calls that I've had to make all week and I keep procrastinating. The nature of the calls isn't even remotely bad, I just don't want to do it. I had all week and could've done a few each day, but now I have to do them all this afternoon.

Anyone else dread having to make calls? Maybe it's bad memories from my days having to make cold calls or something.

Re: hate making phone calls!

  • I hate playing phone tag, I hope you get a hold of everyone today!

  • I am not a phone person either, but I find that I make it worse than it is.  Can you reward yourself with something like a piece of chocalate after 5 calls and try to make it fun?
  • I'm like that too.  I hate talking on the phone.  I am home based so I have to attend a lot of conference calls and I rarely will just call someone unless there is a meeting on the calendar.  99% of the time I do e-mail and avoid calling.  I hate that I'm like that b/c sometimes I think calling would take care of things faster and easier than e-mail.

Just think about how great you'll feel when you have them all done!

  • I'm the same way.  I call the message indicator light on my phone the "blinking light of death".

  • I hate it too, especially as I am hearing impaired and never know if I'm actually going to understand the other person. I try to set up a sort of reward system--return my messages, 5min on the Bump; make these phone calls then go for a walk. And I agree with PP, generally they go much better/faster than I expect them to.

  • Funny...I just said this to my sup.  A sponsor needs to call me today and I REALLY don't want her calling me.  When my phone rings I'm like 'ugh...what do you want'!!  LOL...I never say that, but that's what I think.  Email is so much easier and I can keep track of what was said.  I understand phone calls are important as well.

  • I could have written this lol.

I pray when I make calls at work I get voicemail.  I'm an auto claims adjuster and I pretty much work the back end of claims...making payments, following up on things and making sure a claim isn't just sitting there with nothing done on it.  So I can call, leave the info I need in a note in the claim and they call back and get a call center who has all the instructions and notes on it...I hate calling people and I have no idea why.

I'm happy to hear I'm not the only one like this.  I'm not sure what happened to me between h.s. and now but... I hate talking ont he phone...to anyone.

  • My boss and I clash heads on this all the time. She wants me to call our volunteers....some of them don't want to be called, but emailed. I hate calling as well...but will do for those who want called. I think I agree in that it brings me back to the day of cold calling.

  • well I got 10 done before I had to go pump again, so I think I'm done for the day. It wasn't so bad and at least I got a few done. I couldn't do the reward system, because I had already had a candy bar ;-)

I just know that if someone calls me, I likely won't call them back unless I really need to, but if they email me, I have no problem shooting back a quick response. So I figure that everyone would rather get an email. However, it was MY idea to make these dumb calls since I know so many people are in email hell and buried alive.  I figured a call AND an email will have more impact. Me and my stupid ideas! At least I got a co-worker to do half of them :-)
