Big hugs to you. Having been there, done that, may I offer a bit of my experience? I also chose not to "make it easy" for my exH. After years of his cheating, I wanted to force him to man-up and divorce me. It took him forever to grow the balls to actually do it, even though at that point he already had a live-in girlfriend. I lived in a bizarre emotional space during that time, married on paper but in no other way. It was insanely complicated. Were I to do it over again, I would do what was easy for me and divorce him immediately. Only you know what your limits are, but do what is best for you and your boys, and don't bother to care if it makes it easy for him if it also makes it easier for you.
You and your boys are in my prayers daily. I am so sorry for what you are going through. My grandma who is now 100 and one of the most amazing women I know was in a very similar situation when my dad was young. She raised him to be an amazing man and when he was a teenage met the man I loved and called grandpa. I am praying this is the storm before your rainbow.
I'm so sorry for all you are going through. Sending you lots of hugs. I'm glad you have a legal person in your corner and your family is able to be there for you.
