Talk to me about cell phones

Dh and I are finally upgrading into the 21st century. What do you have and would you recommend it. I dont think I want one with internet, as I am home more then out.

Thanks

Re: Talk to me about cell phones

  • If you're going to use if strictly for talking on the phone and a few text messages, I'd say just go with one of the free ones. Usually when you sign up for a plan there are a couple phones you can have for free and then the other options are the more you want to do on your phone the more the phone costs. I've always gone for the free option and have always had good luck and liked my phones. Just recently I got an iphone and although I did not want it because I didn't NEED it, DH insisted I get it and I love it!

  • I, too, am home more than out, however, I love love love my iPhone.  I had a Blackberry before and didn't even have data on it (I never got on the internet with it) until they made me.  But I use my iPhone ALL THE TIME.  Directions, finding the nearest store, checking my bank accounts, keeping my calendar, checking prices to compare on Amazon, music.  I could go on.

    Also...two words:  Angry.  Birds.  =P

Oh that game is addicting.  You will be hard pressed to find a phone that doesn't have internet on it, anymore.  I would go with one of the free ones to get your feet wet.  You'll soon be wanting an iPhone in no time.  They are truly fabulous!

  • Who is your carrier?  We have TMobile and I just got the LG Optimus.  I didn't really need the internet on my phone since I am at a computer all day but I love having it!  If you want just a standard phone go with one of the free ones.

This. I have to have one with internet for work, but if I didn't, I would just as soon get a free one. That being said, I love LOVE my Droid X. Which is great because I wanted an iPhone so bad, but I didn't want to switch carriers. I got the Droid instead and I am just as happy with it as I would be with an iPhone.

  • I couldn't find one I liked (I wanted something that is kid proof and has a long battery life.) My DH got me an unlocked Nokia C2-01 on his last trip. I love it because it is a phone first but has all the bells and whistles that I could ever need in a pinch. I could have renewed my contract and got a iphone 3GS for cheaper, but then I would only get the 1/4 the battery life at best, and more distractions (with apps) when I am going for less in my life.

  • You could always just go with the next newer model than the one you currently have...

They don't make the old Nokia's with a little antenna (circa 1998) anymore. My DH searched 3 continents...his mom's just died like 2 months ago. :p

Nice, I am totally dragging my feet on this too.  Dh got a droid and we will pick one of the free options for me too. Guess I need to figure out this phone thing.

All of the above but replace iphone with android. I've always been happy with the free phones - I've had really good luck with samsung phones in particular.
