If you sleep trained your high need child....

please tell me how you did it!  DD is very resistant to sleep training; we did it at 6 months and it worked, but only for 2 weeks.  Since then, we've been waking up with her throughout the night.  On a good night, she'll wake up twice--at 2 AM and then around 4 AM and only for a few minutes.  But there are nights (and it's been that way around here lately) she's waking up every hour and a half and then at the 4 AM wake up, she's crying loudly, which results in her waking herself up more and us staying in her room for an hour to an hour and a half until she falls asleep.  DH and I are at our wits end.  So, if you sleep trained your high need child, please, share your tips and your experiences!

  • I need more information.  What do you mean by "high need child"?  Does she have some sort of diagnosis from a professional, or is this your description of her?  If it's just your description of her, what are examples of her being "high need"?

When I read your description of the situation you have at night, it's hard for me to tell if sleep training has been unsuccessful because you have been inconsistent, or if it's been unsuccessful because your daughter has something going on that makes her just really, really tough to deal with.

I agree with this. We definitely need more info as to what makes your DD "high needs."

It does sound like you are not consistent with what you are doing. That's got a lot to do with it.?

  • Is your DD getting her 1st set of molars? ?This sounds a lot like when my DD was getting her molars. ?She would wake up ALL THE TIME. ?She would be up in the middle of the night from about 3-5am and giving her Tylenol or Motrin didn't always help. ?Once those molars came in she was sleeping much better. ?

Oh and her sleeping troubles went from the time she was 4 months until about 14-15 months and it was always because of her teeth. ?She now sleeps like a champ and will even run to her crib if I ask her if she wants to take a nap or go night-night. ?
