How can I soften up my mei tai?

I have a bamberoo mei tai that I bought used a while back, but the original owner didnt really break it in much. At first I was happy at how "new" it was, but I just wish it would break in already! What are your tricks?

Wash it? Sleep on it? Tie it?

What can I do? Thanks!

  • I'm not familiar with bamberoo, but I know that breaking in CDs requires both washing and drying. You wash, dry, wash, dry.  This opens and closes the fibers, loosening them.

Thanks. I intended to dry it in the dryer, just didnt mention it. Good call though. Bamberoo is a pretty structured carrier, padded waist & shoulder straps.

Does anyone else have any recs?

  • I'd imagine you could adapt most of the techniques used to break in a wrap.  Fold it and sit on it, braid the straps, and use a steam iron if the fabric allows it.
    .
  • I just recently bought a "like new" Beanslings on FSOT. It has brown padded denim straps. It arrived about a month ago and was very stiff at first, but it's breaking in nicely. I think what helps the most is just to wear it! :) Even if it's just for short periods of time. I've also been braiding the straps together whenever I think about it to help speed up the process.
