First midwife appt at 9weeks?

So I called to book my first midwife appointment and they don't see anyone until 8-10 weeks! I'll be 9 weeks 2 days at my first appointment...I feel like I'm missing out when I hear others having their first appointment at 6 weeks...Does anyone know if this is common?

    Mine is in my 8th week...so I think it's common

    It depends on your Dr/MW. My doctor won't see me until at least 8 weeks.

    Edit: I could request a visit before that but they would only do a pregnancy test to confirm pregnancy. They don't do anything else until further along unless high risk

    Very common.  Every doctor does things different.  Lots of us who are having early appointments were doing IF treatments or have had previous losses.

    Ok, well that makes me feel better. I guess I'm just anxious to see the little blob to help me feel like it is actually happening.

    Yup, I'm going through it too, I can't see my belly bean untill 9 weeks. Its probably because your low risk or you havn't had any problems :)

    I am not seeing mine until 12 weeks.   My MW said there really wasn't a point in coming in earlier since we won't be able to hear the heartbeat before then. 

    Even at 8 weeks all they are probably going to do is a family history and bloodwork.   There really isn't more they can do for you in the first trimester (most MW don't do early u/s).

    Yeah my first docs appt isnt til 10 weeks. I too was a bit surprised, but figured its not a huge deal - the time is flying already!

    Im on a waiting list for a midwife, so hopefully I'll hear something back from them soon....

    A lot of us are going in sooner because we have a previous loss.  My 1st PG they were gonna see me at 8 wks.  My last one with DD I went in at 6.  This time it just works out I'm gonna go in between 5-6.  They can see the sac and if the baby's in there.

    My doctor won't see me until 8 weeks because they won't try to hear the heartbeat until then. They told me at the first appointment they will do blood work, health history and an ultrasound to listen for the heartbeat!! Only 20 more days to go!! :) I just want to see my little apple seed too and make sure everything is okay!! :)

    I don't have a first appointment yet (waiting to hear back from my MW clinic), but with DD they didn't see me until almost 12 weeks. I remember being soooo freaked out and anxious about it, and I couldn't believe that was "the norm." This time, I'm not anxious at all, but obviously I knew what to expect.
