Dr. couldn't get the HB on the doppler...did a sono instead

We just got back from the doctor's office and after trying for maybe a minute to get the heartbeat on the doppler she just said she'd do a quick sono. She looked at the sono and said the heartbeat looked fine, probably in the 160s and I know she's a doctor and everything is probably fine, but has anyone else not been able to have their doctor find the HB on the doppler?

  • Yes!I wa so scared. My doctor did a T/V U/S that day and we saw the baby! She said heartbeat looked fine and was 169 bpm. She also said I was measuring small which could of been why we couldn't hear the heartbeat because I was not as far along as they had first suspected. I was supposed to be 12 weeks that day but she moved me to 10 w 5 d. I have my next appointment in a few weeks. Who knows what will happen. I'm thinking if she didn't say anything was wrong with your baby's HB there is nothing to worry about ( I know, easier said than done!). Best of luck :)

  • The doctor could only find baby's HB on the dopplar for seconds at a time. Not even long enough for me to hear it. And that took her 5-10min just to get it for a second. I had my NT scan yesterday and the US Tech LOOKING at the baby couldn't even follow baby enough with the little wand for me to hear it, case s/he was bouncing around so much! It was actually quite funny. I wouldn't be too worried if I were you, it's amazing how much they can move around in there, and they are still so tiny (inches long), I see now how it can be difficult.

  • this happened to me at my 11 week appointment. I also have a slightly tipped uterus which makes it hard for the doppler. you aren't alone!

  • Yep, happened to us last Thursday. Exact same situation. Baby was fine. Apparently it happens pretty often. Mine was because LO was so active and kept moving around.

  • That happened to me at my last appt, I was sent for an u/s and everything was fine but it was a little scary there.  I have a tilted uterus so that was the problem but today a 15w5d she was able to get it with no problems.  = )
