Random: Do you wear polo shirts?

Do you wear polo shirts? Do you think that they are a classic, something that will always be in style, hideous, or something in between?

I ask because someone on another board asked what clothes she should buy that would be classics and polos were suggested. Maybe it's just me, but the thought of wearing a polo makes me cringe.

Re: Random: Do you wear polo shirts?

  • No, shirts with collars are totally unflattering on me so I never wear anything with a collar.

  • Not since the 80s. (although I sometimes miss my purple Izod shirt.)
  • Polo shirts are classic.  Traditional.  I have several that I wear here and there.

  • I wore them to work when I worked in the engineering field.  That be said engineers have never been known for their fashion sense.  I think they are kind of a classic style, but i wouldn't choose to wear them other than for work.

Yes  Unless it's fitted, I'd never wear one. Even then, meh.

Can you show me an example? Because when I think of women in polos all I can picture are the uniforms you might wear at a retail store, like this:

  • Never.  Only classic on men and for employment purposes.

  • I have a couple and never wear them.
  • I do like them on some people, but not on me.

  • I never wear them, I just don't think they are cute. But my dh wears them all the time and I do think they are classic for men, that's why men's stores always have a million in every color..

  • I love polos, definitely need to be fitted, though.  I like to pair with a fitted cardigan, when you need to layer for screwy weather:

But I am conservative, so maybe I always look like  I work at a convenience store.

Absolutely not, LOL. I certainly don't get a "Best Buys sales associate" vibe from that photo. Stick out tongue

  • I wore them in the 80s I just don't think they are really what I would consider in style or flattering. DH wears them to work and I perfer him in polos over t-shirts.

    Ditto.  LOL!

  • it makes me think of high school band, because whenever we did little concert tours our uniforms would always be a polo with white pants. Ick!

i'm not a big polo fan. they make me feel too...mannish.

  • No, because I have trouble finding flattering, fitted ones. If I found a good one I would wear it.

  • I used to wear fitted ones until I realized how ridiculous my huge chest looked in them.

I had several variations, mostly Ralph Lauren.  I even had a polo dress.  Embarrassed (which, by the way, I just found when sorting through totes in the basement.  WTF did I save that for???)

  • No, I personally feel they look dated. Oddly enough, I don't feel the same way about polos for men.

  • No, never, I think they are hideously unflattering on me.
  • Yes, daily.   They are our "uniform".  Some middle aged chick wore inappropriate (think slutty) clothes to the office years ago so they instituted the uniform.   Our field staff, they have always worn company shirts/sweatshirts.

Ha! I just saw someone in my office today wearing one of these!

  • Me? No...I rarely do ANY shirts with buttons due to big bubbies....I pop them open.

My DH?  Yes...for work often and when he golfs ALL the time....he calls them golf shirts..not polo shirts.

I have a few for Mitch (none for my girls) and the few I have for Mitch I don't love him in....I get a "dugger kid" vibe from him when he wears it....like he belongs to the Duggars....there is one that is more "skater/rock star" that I like...the solid navy one, I hate....TOTAL Duggar.

  • They look horrible on me but I think they look good on the RL models.
