Baby squirming herself awake

It drives me nuts when I feed dd in the middle of the night and then the second I lay her down, she starts squirming so much that she wakes herself up. We swaddle her in sleepsacks, but even in one of those she squirms enough that she will wake herself up. Sometimes I hold her body in place for a minute after I lay her down, which helps a bit, but not always. Anyone have any ideas? Or if she's that squirmy, maybe she's just not in deep enough sleep?

  • Yeah, I would suggest holding her for a little while longer before putting her down.  Does she take a pacifier?  Those can really be life savers when it comes to this.  DS really only uses his at times like this when he just needs a couple of sucks to fall back asleep and then he spits it out.  DS doesn't wiggle himself awake, but he does wake up with gas quite a bit!

  • When we swaddled DS, I could put him down right after he fell asleep and he would stay that way. Once we quit swaddling, I had to hold him forever to get him deeply asleep and then I could put him down without waking up.

My test is to lift his arm then drop it.  If he doesn't move, he's deep enough asleep to be put in his crib.  Good luck!
