Success after IF

If you toddler moved from a crib to a twin bed come in...

If your child is in a twin bed can you recommend a decent mattress brand for kids?  Does it even matter?  I just dont want anything too soft.

Also...where did you buy your bedroom set ( bed frame with headboard, dresser)?  I am looking for something nice, but not too expensive like pottery barn or anything.

Can bed rails be attached to ANY bed set?

 Thanks!

  • I can't answer any of your questions except the last one!  I am pretty sure you can get the portable rails that will slip under any mattress.

I am not very fancy with beds for kids...Our cribs are from IKEA and I will be getting Penny a bed from there as well.  Reed's bed was a handmedown from our neighbours.  You can get amazing prices on great twin mattresses because no one wants a bed that small anymore!

  • We got the boys what is called a twin guest bed.  It was a little better made then a kids twin.  It can support an adult sleeping but isnt meant for adults every night.  We still dont have the boys beds on rails they are on the floor.  We did this to keep them lower and keep the boys and toys out from under them.  We paid $250/set.

  • When shopping for a twin bed the sales guy took one look at D, asked if it was for him and promptly told us to get the cheapest one we could find.

He explained that they don't weigh enough to justify a higher quality construction for quite some time.

If a guy who works on commission recommends cheap I'm good with that!

Beds have come a long way.  It's hard to find a "bad" mattress.  I've slept in both the boys beds and they're fine for an adult so I know they're not damaging their backs or anything.

    Bedroom set?

We didn't buy one.  We used older dressers from the get go and have ZERO interest in having a head or foot board on beds in kids rooms.  It's an invitation to injury.

If I needed a dresser, etc I'd hit IKEA if you've got one close or your local cheaper furniture store.

We plan to let them use and abuse older stuff and wait until they're around 12+ to buy them their "forever" furniture (stuff they'll take away to or after college)

Bed rails?  Yup... they're pretty generic and fit under the mattress.  For D we didn't even get a box spring - just went with a taller frame for under bed toy storage - and even without a spring to wedge it between we've had no problem with 2 different brands of bed rails.

    HTH!

Our IF journey: 1 m/c, 1 IVF with only 3 eggs retrieved yielding Dylan and a lost twin, 1 shocker unmedicated BFP resulting in Jace, 3 more unmedicated pregnancies ending in more losses.
Total score: 6 pregnancies, 5 losses, 2 amazing blessings that I'm thankful for every single day.

We bought my daughters bed at a neighbors garage sale :)  It is wood so we just scruffed it up with sandpaper and painted it white.  We used my husbands old twin mattress that used to be in our guest room.  I do not think it matters what type of twin mattress you buy.  I would look on Craigslist for beds too...that is where we just bought one for my youngest and it is in our garage until she is ready for the move.  and yes bedrails will slip under any old mattress.

  • I plan on getting the girls furniture from this place

https://www.simplykidsfurniture.com/0944181765a1.html, they have free shipping and the prices seem reasonable for a furniture set. I wanted a little detail in the furniture since it will be their furniture for a very long time. I like IKEA furniture for our guest bedroom, but it is very plain. I am getting the one here in the pic with the drawers below. I like having the extra storage for blankets and extra sheets and stuff. The girls are sharing a room and closet so the extra storage is great.

I am just going to look to see who has a deal on matresses at the time we get these. We are not getting them until they are almost 4 next year. They are currently using their toddler beds that were converted from their IKEA cribs because we are not having anymore kids and don't need the cribs again. I want to get as much use as possible out of the crib/toddler beds. They will still fit in them fine until they turn 4.
