TTC After a Loss

1 day period+BFP= m/c

I thought I had my period last Friday (which was typical for me starting @9dpo.)  After minor spotting I took an HPT Sunday and got a BFP.  Went for betas yesterday morning (55), then by last night I was cramping, had a horrible backache and was bleeding heavily (with clots.)  While my m/c hasn't been confirmed with betas (I go back tomorrow,) I can't go on pretending this is a viable pregnancy.

I am so frustrated and upset right now.  I have been trying to tell my OBGYN that my LPs are too short and she kept blowing it off (saying since my cycle was 28 days long that I am actually ok- what?!) then suggested clomid out of nowhere.  I am mad because while we will not know the exact cause of this m/c, I suspect that the reason I haven't had a viable pregnancy is because of my short LPs.

The only thing I could do last night was research new OBGYNs to keep my mind off of what was really going on.  Which, I did find one-near me- that encourages charting so they can better help you- while my current doctor wants me to STOP charting?!

I am still kind of numb right now, hasn't completely sunk in.  My DH on the other hand, is extremely upset.  My two SILs are pregnant (his sister and his brother's wife) and we all would have been due 3 weeks apart from each other.

  • Oh buckeye, I am so sorry for your loss.  As I read this, the first thing I thought is you have got to find a new OBGYN!  Your current OB does not seem very proactive....  I am sending very positive thoughts your way and I hope you can find a great dr!

You are right though, you don't know anything for sure until betas make a decreasing pattern.

Time to get a new OBGYN without a doubt.  Your doctor should LISTEN to your concerns.  They work for YOU.  Maybe starting fresh with a new doctor will help you in this journey.  I am so sorry.

I just wanted to let you know that I had the EXACT same thing last week.  A one day period, followed by tripling betas, followed by falling betas :(  I also have a pregnant SIL, cousin, and dear friend where we would have been due within the same month with my first pregnancy.  Do I smell a TTC-AL BFF-ship brewing?!?!?!?   ;)

I know it's not 'official' until I get my next beta drawn, but emotionally, I just can't hang on.  I freak out every time going to the bathroom and seeing what I see.  Of course, if something switched around for the good I would be elated, but considering the heaviness of the bleeding and the clots, I can't really be in denial.

I also have a friend who has an EDD the day before my first one and a couple who are due a month after my original EDD.  We can vent any time to each other :)

I think what really upset me (and my DH), was low progesterone has been a concern, even one my doctor agreed with I thought since she had put me on prometrium for one cycle, so when I called about getting betas I asked for them to check progesterone and they said they don't do that?!  [major side-eye inserted, I'm on Chrome so I have no smileys.)

  • I'm so sorry.  I think it is really good that you are trying to find a doctor that you can work better with.  That was one of my big things with my OB, I really like him and the way he handles stuff and I think that is a huge part in this journey.  You don't want to deal with frustration with your OB.  There are already plenty of frustrations to go around.

I understand how you feel, and I'm sorry, I didn't mean to give you any false hope.  I have just developed a "scientific" view of pregnancy to protect myself.  Betas up--pregnant, betas down--miscarrying.  Why does this have to be so hard?

I am the same way with being freaked out every time I go to the bathroom.

You're fine!  You did not give me false hope.  Of course, in the back of my head, I'm praying for a miracle, but when I actually think about it, I know that's not happening this time.  That's one thing my doctor seemed 'irritated' with me about, she said "You're making having a baby too scientific"- this was her response when I brought my charts to her back in April. Whaaaaa?  Sorry for wanting to chart until my body was doing normal stuff!

  • Oh man, this sucks so bad.  I'm so, so sorry.  I can only imagine that high of the BFP and then having it grabbed right out of your hands so fast. And then to have all the SIL's pregnant too...UGH.

I understand that you are being "realistic", but I hope to see a raising betas post from you anyway :-)

As far as your doctor goes...RUN, DON'T WALK to a new doctor.  Your current one sounds like a really bad fit for you.  Any doctor that doesn't encourage charting is to be avoided in my opinion.  To say that you're making things too scientific is just asinine.  And to just throw out words like clomid seems like he/she is just not very educated.  Ovulation isn't your problem.  If they bothered looking at your charts, they'd see that!  It scares me actually to read some posts on these boards because I feel like sometimes we know more than our doctors!  I really hope you find a great doctor who will listen,  take you seriously, and be proactive.

HUGE HUG for you and for your hubby.
