Hey all - just wondering about low blood flow in the umbilical cord. I had an ultrasound last week and found out that the blood flow from the placenta to baby through the cord is low. He's healthy and growing and kicks me a lot but I'm just wondering if anyone else has heard of this or knows of any side effects. I can only assume that my little man might be on the smaller side because of it but I'm not sure of anything else. Any help would be great
Re: Question: Low blood flow in the umbilical cord
Our Baby B was given the same diagnosis, but he also has IUGR. He hasn't been growing at the same rate of Baby A, and is in the 0th percentile for height/weight.
He struggled with this for a few weeks, but was re-checked today and all his umbilical dopplers were in the normal range (odd, but I'll take it). However, he went from having mild oligohydramnios (low fluid level) to moderate oligohtdramnios. I'm not entirely sure how they came up with that, since they didn't measure the amniotic fluid level, they just eyeballed it. Weird, but I'll be headed back down tomorrow for another scan, so I'll ask them to take another look then. He's had borderline low/normal -- mild oligohydramnios since 18w.
They're watching me each day with NSTs (and BPPs, if one of them doesn't pass their NSTs). Thankfully, he's passed his NSTs since Friday, while Twin A hasn't been, but she's in the 12th percentile for growth.
Good Luck!! I'm thinking of you...
