Which brand is best, I've heard the hospital ones are kinda yucky, and I'm kinda picky about those kinds of things. I've also heard Depends work wonders?
Haven't delivered yet, but I bought the plus sized always. Didn't even know they had plus sized maxi pads, but figured they would be larger than the traditionally sized.
You definitely want something absorbent, especially for those first few days (although in the hospital I only used the ones they gave me, and yes, they could probably fit an elephant.). It's nice to use the hospital big ones because you can fit the ice and all that with it.
At home, I found that I preferred to have something thin and long, because I felt icky with a giant thick overnight maxi on all the time. I just used Always with wings, and changed frequently. They were still absorbent enough, but didn't feel so diaper-y, and I didn't feel like I was being wasteful changing them all the time. HTH!

The ones from the hospital I delivered my first at were actually not bad so I used them until the bleeding started tapering off and then I used the Always with Wings Regular pads.
A friend recommended using Always Infinity with wings pads specifically. She said that the "infinicel" stuff that they are made of doesn't get caught on stitches (if you have a tear or an episiotomy) like regular pads do (and I had that problem with DD1, it's painful!).

This.
I did buy the big overnight maxi pads that always has but I didn't end up using those.Maybe 3 or 4 out of the pack was all.
I ended up using the Depends pads for my first week after delivery. I bled a LOT (or a lot more than what I had been expecting). I tried to use normals pads, and even tried to use the most absorbant and largest ones they sold at the store, didn't work out too well...too many undies lost in the battle. So, I went with the Depends and it worked out nicely until the bleeding slowed and I was able to move over to regular pads. They are big and bulky, but at least they caught everything.

At the hospital I used what they provided (it was an Always overnight) but once I came home I used Always Thin. I also didn't bleed a lot so I didn't need anything thick. I def recommend something with wings though
my pp bleeding wasn't nearly as bad as I had expected, I used the hospital provided for the first few days but pretty much when I went home I was down to the always overnights. I couldn't have dealt with anything I had to change often because it felt like I never even had time to go to the bathroom the first few weeks. I did stick with the awesome hospital underwear for a couple weeks home too, and I wore PJ pants and nursing tops for about 3 months till I had to go back to work and start wearing clothes again.

Me too. The hospital ones are bigger than any Maxi you'll find in the store...they are enormous. I used maybe 3-4 from the pack of Always I bought when the hospital stash ran out. Use the free stuff, and grab everything they give you.
Lol I want baby and I BOTH to wear diapers!! Haha but seriously... While growing up I had to use the always overnight pads for the first few days of just my regular period (this was before learning of tampons... lol). So Im pretty concerned as to how much Im going to be bleeding. Im probably just going to try out the ones that the hospital will give me and have some depends on standby just in case. Then just go back to my old always overenights again
I used the hospital ones for a while. Took as many as I could and then used Stayfree overnight pads. I like Always, but I had a first degree tear and the Always pads bothered my stitches.
i haven't given birth yet, but i bought a box of depends. it was also recommended to me to buy kotex brand pads instead of always, but i can't remember exactly why. something about what the always dri-weave liner being an irritant or something. anyone else hear that advice?
I bleed a lot the first few days after delivery so I'll be using super absorbent Depends plus an overnight pad. I'll switch to cloth pads as soon as the bleeding isn't in Niagara Falls mode anymore.
So how long is this glorious part of post-pregnancy supposed to last?
I hear up to a few weeks. Everyone reacts differently. I had one friend who had to use pads for three weeks, while my sister-in-law only needed them for about a week and a half.

I bled for 12 weeks but we figured out that I have a mild bleeding disorder that had not previously been diagnosed. Two and a half of those weeks it was really heavy.

Anything with a lot of coverage but not too bulky.
Keep in mind, that your bladder may be out of whack too for a little while so you'll want something that can also handle that leakage, unfortunately.
I personally prefer the Kotex Pad because it has a cottony feel liner -I hate always they feel to me like sitting on a piece of plastic...
I'm honestly thinking about depends for convenience...but before delivery
- My commute is killing me!
