Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Mommy's of breastfed babies sleeping through the night...

Are you still waking to pump? We are LOVING that DD is sleeping 6.5 - 7 hours a night now but unless I wake up to pump at some point in the middle of the night, my breasts are rock solid (and usually leaking) when DD wakes and is ready to eat and then has a harder time feeding from them.

I just want to be able to sleep too lol!

  • I EP. I stopped pumping in the middle of the night when DD started doing longer stretches. It just wasn't worth getting up for! That was about 3 weeks ago. I definitely leaked a lot in the beginning, but that's gotten much better. My boobs are sitll rock hard in the morning, but I only leak a tiny bit, if at all.

  • LO is sleeping 8-9 hour stretches and I'm still gerting up in the middle of the night to pump. I'll probably ccontinue this for a while bc I'm getting a good 6-10oz when I pump at night. This is helping build my freezer stash. Sucks for sleeping but worth it for me.

  • I do not pump at night....if you keep pumping then you are telling your body you still need it when you actually don't need it then.  It might take a few days to regulate your supply, but I wouldn't pump at night if you don't need it.  You can always pump after your LO  nurses to make sure that you get some for your stash.

I don't get up.  I usually pump one side in the morning and let her eat off the other side.  I can get 6 oz out of the side I pump and usually only stop because the bottle is full.  Sometimes I also pump the remainder of the side she nurses off of and get an additional 2oz.  I mostly pump for engorgement and to keep my supply going. I'd rather have too much milk than not enough.

  • I do simply to build up my freezer stash. And it only takes me 10 minutes or so to pump. I don't even turn on the lights.

  • That's fantastic that your DD sleeps that long.  I EBF and DD sleeps for a good 4-5 hours at night, so I am waking only once or twice.  Sometimes, I have to wake her up to eat because I am getting engorged.  The rule of thumb when you are pumping is that every time you would normally feed your DD, you need to pump and count that as a feeding.  The sleep deprivation sucks, but you get used to it.

  • I do not wake up to pump and after a few uncomfortable nights my boobs adjusted. When they were rock hard I got up and manually expressed a little in the bathroom during the night.
