I read the study about chemicals in baby products made from polyutherane foam, so I'm trying to eliminate everything I have that has it. I'm not sure what to do about the co-sleeper. We just bought it at a consignment sale (so it can't be returned), and it has the tag on it that says it has the flame retardant materials (which are what contains the chemicals). I contacted the company about it (Arms Reach), but they haven't responded.
We can't afford to buy another co-sleeper or bassinet. The only other thing we have for the baby to sleep in is her crib, but we really want her to sleep in our room for the first few months.
II don't want to put any kind of covering on the co-sleeper mattress b/c it's a SIDS risk. I'm not sure what to do. Any thoughts?
Re: not sure what to do about polyutherane foam products
Unfortunately, no. There is no room for a crib in our room, and I can't sleep if bed sharing. I really wanted something very close to my bed to make BFing easier and b/c I'm having a c/s and won't be able to get up and down easily at night.
i'd put it outside in the sun for several days (as long as it's not wet out) and let nature do its thing. a lot of the off-gassing will happen outside of your house and will be more neutralized by the time the baby gets here.
also, are there not any covers made for that mattress, that would fit it properly and not be a SIDS risk?
alternatively, could you take the mattress out and buy a new one that fits it? i think most of those are standard sizes.
I just saw this and it's an eco friendly cosleeper mattress: https://www.livingecho.com/products/green-your-home/babies-kids/baby-gear/cradles-baby-beds/baby-mattresses/cosleeper-size/ecobaby!cottonwoolrubber-infant-cosleeper-organic-mattress-255-x-365-x-2-ecobaby-organics-eb2800-c
maybe this would help?
