Really Bad Cramping?

Hi everyone,

I am freaking out a bit. After trying for 14 months, we finally got a positive test on Sunday. I had a great week, but then today I randomly got horrible cramps. I went for hCG testing Wednesday and was scheduled to go back today, but I called my doctor before I left when I started to feel the really bad cramping. She said that my Wednesday levels were really low (154 when they were hoping for 300; my progesterone was also only a 10 when they were hoping for 25). She said she wouldn't know anything until they compared, so I went for my next round today. In the meantime, my cramps all day have been pretty constant (they feel worse than a period). I had pretty much prepared myself for a miscarriage, but the doctor called a little bit ago and said my numbers tripled (154 to 469) and my progesterone also went up a lot. She said not to worry, to rest a lot and to keep hydrated, but that it looks like a good pregnancy so far.

I'm trying to be optimistic, but I had two miscarriages in '07 before having a healthy, happy boy at the end of '08. We have been trying again for more than a year. I'll be 35 this year, and I also had an ovarian cyst in January that eventually shrunk a bunch. For now, I'll stay positive since the numbers went up so much, but has anyone else had this horrible cramping? At first, it felt like someone was digging a knife into my right side and my lower right back. After 5 minutes of that, for the last 6 hours it's been constant period-like cramping. I haven't had any blood, though, which is a good thing. The doctor said it could be because my uterus stretching and my body getting ready. I'm still a bit concerned. Please tell me someone else had this cramping and everything ended up being okay!

Thanks,

Allison

  • Ive been dealing with cramps all day... Maybe its just your uterus just getting bigger. Really hope this doesnt end in a miscarriage for you!! T&P for you!!

  • I know it's hard, but try not to worry. Your not bleeding and your numbers are going up. All great signs. With DD I had terrible cramping off and on thru the whole pregnancy. Mostly during the first tri and I had a perfectly healthy baby, it was just everything changing and stretching. :)

  • I get the cramps and have been getting them since a couple of weeks into the pregnancy.  Mine come and go and I almost always get them at night, especially if I have a full bladder (whatever that's about!).  They are stronger than my normal menstrual cramps.  I have started sleeping in stretchy yoga pants because the best way I can get through the cramps is some slow deep breaths while on my knees and elbows, head slightly bowed.  They normal pass after a minute or two, but it feels longer some times.  If only labor pains would only get to this pain level.  I would be a total rockstar in delivery.

  • I have pretty bad cramping too that comes and goes.  It typically is worse at night.  This started at about 4.5 weeks or so and hasn't ended yet.  They are like AF cramps only a little stronger at times.  No blood is a good sign. I hope this is your take home baby!

I answered on 1st tri but just wanted to say here that cramping is totally normal!  I have tons of it!  You will be okay!

Cramping along with bright red blood is something to watch for and call your doctor.

  • I have had bad cramping and back pain too, its settled down the last couple of days. I've had ovarian cysts too and that may be causing some of the pain, I know even small ones can get sore sometimes. Cramping is normal, even if it doesnt seem like it! Good luck!
