co sleeping

ok so dd will sleep through the night - WOO HOO...............BUT only if she lays on he tummy on my chest.  she refuses to sleep any other way.   im scared to death of SIDS so i want to start having her sleep in her own bed without me.  anyone else have a similar problem?  how are you/did you get dc to sleep on their own?

Re: co sleeping

  • DD only STTN in our bed. We're fine with her being there, but I worry about the blankets and pillows all. the. time. We'd never sleep if I put her in her crib though. She wakes up screaming about 10 times a night if I'm not near by. The last few nights she hasn't been sleeping unless she has her hand on me somehow - holding my fingers, wrapping her arms around my arm, holding my hair (ow), etc.

I have no idea what to do about it, though! GL!

  • We have co-slept since the hospital. It has really kept us all very rested and I am not super motivated to transition him out. Most nights I do try the pack and play for part of the night. Warming the spot up before I put him down and turning on a sound machine have helped. Also he sleeps best on his side so we use sleep positioners. He always ends up next to me at some point though :) its just so much easier to feed him.

Honestly, I have read a few things about co-sleeping being protective against SIDS, so if that is your only concern and you are enjoying co-sleeping then i would just go with it.

  • I read that as well about co-sleeping actually protecting against SIDS since the baby is woken up more easily. We have a firm bed and only sleep with the blankets to our waists so they aren't near DS. I sleep in only a nursing bra so even my shirt wouldn't be an issue.
