Randomly reacting to a med?

I have had two reactions to my zofran pump.  One was the nurses fault, the second was from fluids pooling in my foot (oddly enough) then I reacted..

So my face is SWOLLEN, red, blotchy and hurts (as of yesterday)  this morning, my neck is the same way.. WTF...

Could this be the pump again?  I do fine in the mean time... My injection sites are red and swollen but nothing unusual for a harsh sub-q medicine...Plus, I have had it for 8 weeks already.

I called the doctor's office but am waiting for a call back.

Re: Randomly reacting to a med?

  • Very strange-- I never had any reactions to zofran but I would call the home health care company to get a faster response. I will say that I know for some medications it can take a while of being on them before you react. I am allergic to amoxicillan and was on it a ton as a kid (like most kids are) and it wasn't until I was 17 that I had an allergic reaction and even then I didn't have the allergic reaction until I had been on it for a second round (day 14 or something like that) and it was a pretty severe reaction when it finally occurred. Definitely strange but I suppose it can happen. Keep us updated when you hear back and GL!

Yup. I had an allergic reaction to penicillin when I was 19, after having taken it all throughout my childhood.

I also had a bad reaction to a migraine prescription I was taking after having already been on it for 3 months. It landed me in the hospital.

Allergic reactions are weird like that sometimes. Hope you get it all straightened out!
