Trouble TTC

Oooof course it had to get more complicated... and help

I have a requisition from my OB for CD3 BW. It's for a chain laboratory that's not open on Sundays.... and today is CD1. Grrr. So now I get to go through figuring out how to get BW done on a Sunday. The RE that I have an appt. with in July is open on Sundays, but not sure about their lab (though I know they can do testing in-house). I left a message, so hopefully they'll get back to me soon.

Has anyone had this happen? Where do you get CD3 BW done? I don't want to waste a cycle and have to wait. Is the RE office the best first call to make? My OB? Does anyone know if a requisition for a specific lab can be used elsewhere?

Re: Oooof course it had to get more complicated... and help

  • I had my CD3 bloodwork drawn at the REs office on a Sunday. I believe they did estrogen and FSH in house, the AMH was sent out. Maybe you can ask where they send out to, and see if your OB can send your blood there? Also, can the blood collected be stored in some way for analysis the following day? Can't hurt to ask. But I really have no concrete ideas to help. In any case, you can always have it done on CD4, I believe that is also acceptable.

  • Not sure if it is an option, but what about the lab at your local hospital? That is where I go for all my b/w since my RE is an hour away. They should be able to fax it to them, or if you have the sheet- usually any lab can run these tests for you. Hospital labs should be open almost all the time!

  • Happy Friday! My doctor always has me go to the hospital lab/blood work place (have no clue the name) and they do it there. No appointment necessary so we just fit it into our morning routine.

Hope this helps. Good luck :)

  • When this happened to me, they just did the b/w on CD4 instead.
  • Hi! I usually go to the hospital. The lab is open all the time but they make me go register in the ER department b/c no one is at the front desk to register. They said the ER patients go first but I've never had any problems. Hopefully that is how your local hospital is too! Good luck :)

I thought about a hospital. I guess my hang-up is the lab name being on a requisition. I'm kind of a very black-and-white rules follower, so in my head, I'm thinking "if it says I have to go here, I have to go here."

I guess is all else fails, CD4 isn't going to make too much of a difference. I think I need to calm down.

  • Like PPs have said, if you can't find a place on Sunday to go, CD4 is good, too!

  • I'm pretty sure you can do the blood work on CD4 and it will still be accurate.

Can the OB's office give you a requisition for a different lab, if CD4 is not OK with them?

  • When they ordered this test for me, I asked what to do if CD 3 landed on a weekend. My doc told me just get close, 2 and 4 are fine. Our lab is closed sat and sun. HTH!

  • CD 4 is probably fine.  That's what I did.

  • I hear ya- my RE wants me to go to the lab by their office- but I explained that my insurance doesn't like to cover things done by people outside our state. I had to get STAT b/w done last week- and they specifically asked me to go to their lab- because it was faster, and they needed the results prior to Rx any more Femara. I went with it that time- but usually your doctor will be cool with any lab- especially if it isn't a STAT order, such as in the case of your CD3 b/w.

Good luck! And don't worry so much!!! It will all work out!

  • Our RE office is open 7 days a week so I've never had that problem.

Can you go to the local hospital/urgent care and do blood work there?  I know our RE told my DH he could to that one time instead of driving up to the RE office.

  • I think I remember my obgyn saying CD 3 blood work could be taken CD2-4. However I moved to the RE before I was able to do CD 3 b/w and they're open 7 days a week so I didn't encounter this problem.

This.  My RE will do day 3 bw on cd2 or cd4 if need be.  Apparently it's not a big deal to him, but not too sure on how many other dr's feel the same.
