How are you all? I wad wondering... Do you have any absolutes in your mind already in regards to l&d? (i.e. "I absolutely will not get an epi.")
The only thing I refuse to try this time is induction. I pitocin-labored forever and only got to a 5. By the time I had my csection, I was completely and utterly exhausted. This time I'll either go into labor on my own or I'll schedule a csection .

This for me too. I was on induction drugs for 4 days and got to a whopping 3 centimeters. I was in the hospital for 6 nights- just to have perfectly healthy baby! NO INDUCTION- is my only hard, fast demand.

First touch of nasuea this morning, but had my wheat thins and a large glass of water and watched it away...as for L&D, I am planning to go as natural as I can. Zero drugs. I already have my Doula and can't wait to start taking hyponobirthing classes.
I got pitocin and then about an hour later I had my epi. I labored from 8:30am to to about 4pm - when I started pushing. I napped all day and watched a Rocky marathon.
I will probably not schedule my labor this time and just go into labor naturally (hopefully). I will have the epi again - I loved it!!

I will have another c-section because my OB doesn't do VBACs and I really like her. I'm not sure if I will allow myself to go into labor on my own or if I will schedule another c-section. Its something I'll have to discuss with her.
JMO, but try to keep an open mind about what you want, expect and what may happen. Everything may not go as planned and you don't want to be so disappointed that you forget about the end result, a beautiful, healthy new baby.
I didn't plan on a c-section but I was ok with it once it became necessary because at that point I just wanted that baby out of me!
I hope to go into labor naturally this time, vs being induced. I plan on getting the epi again. It was nice because I had been in labor for 12 hours and once the epi was in, DH and I took a nap. Then when I woke up, it was pretty much time to push.
On another note, we also had some crazy complications after DD was born, so there are several things I will change (Or at least voice an opinion on) if problems arise again.
I am pretty nauseous this morning. DD is taking a nap ATM and when she wakes up we have a play date at the splash park. Hopefully I'll be feeling better by then.
I was induced with DD and had a pretty easy labor. This time, if I can help it, I don't want to be induced. I want to go into labor naturally. That being said, I did have an epi and absolutely be getting one again. It was amazing!

I don't really have any absolutes as to L&D because I know lots of unexpected things can happen, but I really don't want to be induced or have a c-section if at all possible.
Mother to DD, born sleeping on 9/28/11, and DS, born 3/12/13, 5lbs 13oz, 19in
Since my first were twins I'm all c-sections now. Kinda wish I could deliver naturally, but I'm with being safe on the c-section.

April 10th - fateful ultrasound found pg was CSection Scar Pg. No heartbeat on April 23rd led to D and C, which led to life saving emergency hysterectomy May 7th 2012.
I will not let them give me pitocin either. Although IDK if I'll be able to try a VBAC or not...if not then it's kind of a moot point.
Last time I was progressing perfectly fine and the nurse came in and hooked me up to pitocin. I asked why and she said "The doctor ordered it." Me being nieve just went along with it. But I feel (and Im no expert) that is what caused my DD's heart rate to drop resulting in my c-section.
How adorable is your siggy? I also might not be a vbac candidate. My delivery was a shitstorm last time
I want to try hypnobirth and natural delivery. I realize that everything is not in my hands and do whatever is necessary, but that's what I'd like to happen. I hope to labor at home for as long as possible.
I did not have an epi last time and I don't plan on one this time around.
The biggest thing I learned last time around was to trust in my body and stand my ground when the doctor tells me I'm probably not in REAL labor. I was 10 days early and my contractions never followed the 5-5-1 rule or whatever it was. They were consistently 1 minute long, but first 7 minutes apart, then 4, then 2, then 9, then 5 etc. and my doctor told me there was no way it was real labor. I knew differently even though it was my first and went in anyways. Lo and behold, I was 7cm and 100% effaced when I got there just a mere 3 hours after my first contraction... Avea was born 2 hours later. Unfortunately the doctors text book standards do not apply to everyone.
I'm also a first-timer and aware that what I want doesn't always happen... but I'd really, really prefer to avoid induction and an episiotomy. (No scissors near my girlybits, if I have ANY choice!)

My dr doesn't do episiotomies. She said if you cut, it just tears more, so she prefers a natural tear and to only cut if necessary. I had a very small tear with DD and it was a pretty quick recovery.

nope. my inductions (ive had 3) were so SUPER FVCKING AWESOME that it'll be hard not to just get one again on a date i choose. lol other than that - nothing, really
I'm a first timer so not sure what to expect, but I know the thought of them breaking my water for me creeps me out.
Can someone explain what picotin is/does and why some of you prefer to avoid it? Thanks!!
pitocin is a med that mimics the natural hormone in your body that tells your uterus to contract. ive heard it hurts worse than natural contractions. but some women need it to help labor along. hth

Right there with you ladies! I am staying open minded but would really like to go into labor naturally and avoid a c-section, if at all possible!
Anyone have thoughts on the pros/cons of the epidural?
pros would be you are able to nap through some of your labor. it doesnt really affect the baby like nubain does. cons you cant move around and have to use a bedpan. and afterwards it takes a while to wear off. i used to be afraid of them but to me its worth being comfortable. its all personal preference.

Not really. I plan to just go with the flow like I did with DS. I didn't make any decisions and I think it made my labor a little easier bc I ended up being Pre-E and needing a lot of additional meds. I got an epi because my labor was long with yucky magnesium (for the pre-e) and then i ended up having an emergency c/s bc DS wouldn't fit through my pelvis. I think if I had planned what I wanted I might have been more disappointed about the way things went.

I'm pro-induction (if necessary... I had a great experience with my first)
I'm definitely pro-epidural.
I'm anti-narcotic pain medication. That's probably my only definite.
And I'd strongly prefer to avoid a c-section, unless necessary, of course.

I absolutely do not want nubain. And I really don't want a C Section. I'm going to look at the strip and then I will say if its ok or not lol.
