I asked my pedi about this when DS#3 was reaching one year. I wondered whether he should stay on soy formula but she said switch him to soy milk. He's been drinking it ever since.
She did refer us to a nutritionist though with was helpful. She gave me tips for how to add good fats to his diet and told me about some products I wasn't aware of. We only saw her once but I'm glad we went.
My twins are 5! My baby is 3!
DS#2 - Allergic to Cashew, Pistachio, Kiwi
DS#3 - Allergic to Milk, Egg, Peanut, Tree Nuts and Sesame
I was given a few choices and to do my own research.
I went with fortified rice milk b/c it was easiest to get where i live. We have to avoid soy and cows milk which is why we went with rice milk.
What ever you choose, make sure it has enough calcium. If you go with rice milk, make sure it's fortified.
IMO Toddler formula is good if your child is not thriving.
be careful with soy these days. Make sure it's organic b/c soy has been causing many issues and has a ton of controversy about being re-engineered and causing too much estrogen (especially in boys).
We're actually using Neocate Jr. because DD is also allergic to soy. Our allergist consulted with a nutritionist at Childrens Hospital about possibly using rice milk, but they felt that it just didn't have enough nutrients for DD. Thus, we're on Neocate until we test again, which will be in March of next year.
We are also on Neocate Junior. She tested allergic to all milk alternatives and her pedi, allergist, and nutritionist said it would be best for her in terms of nutrition.

We transitioned to almond milk to drink, coconut milk yogurt for snacks. It has great calcium but is rather low in fat...so we supplement with healthy fats in his diet (esp avacado, he could seriously eat it with every meal). I tried rice milk, hemp milk, and oat milk as well when we were trnasitioning, but almond milk was the only thing he would take.
