Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

ok so who else is dealing/has dealt with this?

DS used to be a great eater, up until about 2 months ago when he turned picky. Not a huge deal, exasperating but I know it happens. However, since about 12 months he has developed a dislike for anything "mushy" or creamy... i.e. cream cheese, ice cream, sauces (ketchup, dip etc.), even if it is ON something like cream cheese on a bagel, he won't even touch it.

I'm hoping this is just a phase too, although it's going on the better part of a year now, and I'm curious if anyone else has a LO who won't touch/taste stuff like this? I could handle him being picky more if there were more things he was willing to eat Stick out tongue FWIW he also has a peanut allergy, so no PB on anything either :-(

Any advice or similar stories would be greatly appreciated!

  • DD was like this for a while- she didn't like mushy stuff like pasta.  Even the icing on her smash cake was very suspect for her.  This was around 12 months, and she got over it in maybe two months or so.

  • DD is the same way about dipping things and having things on her food. She used to love ketchup; now, she dips something in ketchup and then says "Here ya go mommy". She won't eat cream cheese or hummus on anything but a spoon. In the long run I'm not too concern, she eats everything at daycare (no outside food allowed, they provide meals) and loves fruits and veggies. I find it weird she hates sandwiches too... no pb&j, no turkey and cheese, etc.; but she WILL eat bread, turkey and cheese seperately, or if it's a grilled sandwich.

I can't really help you out, not sure if it's just a phase, but try not to let it get to you as long as LO eats and grows. Keep trying new things and reintroducing foods. DD will ask for and eat a whole avocado a day for a month and then say "yucky" for a week before wanting it again.
