Sitz bath

I heard that this is recommended after you give birth.... what is it?  Does it hellp?

Re: Sitz bath

  • its when you sit in just enough bath water to cover your private. Not a full bath,  ppl usually do them a few times a day. I think it helps relax the muscles, but I could be wrong

  • Oh and you usually only sit there for like 15 minutes
  • I'm so glad you asked this. In the past week I've heard 3 different new moms say this really helped them. I didn't want to ask what it was since everyone in the group seemed to know.

  • it helps keep things moist & warm. it helps especially if you get stitches because it keeps them moist & helps things relax. It's suggested also if you have hemrroids.?
  • Do you put anything into the bath?
  • Our hospital sent us home with one and the nurse showed you how to use it.  It's a little basin thing that fits on the toilet and it has a bag that you fill with warm water so you can keep topping it off like you do coffee to keep it warm.  It helped some, but it wasn't awesome by any means.  What I liked best was the dremablast (or something like that) spray that numbs!  God bless that stuff!
  • I didn't put anything in the water, just made it as hot as I could stand it.

It helps improve circulation to your "bottom" (LOL) area and speed up healing. It was great for me after DS's birth!!

  • Oh god, I hated the sitz bath.  I tried it once at the hospital (the kind that fits over the toilet and keeps the water moving) and it hurt more than helped.  But I had a pretty grisly 3rd degree tear, so any pressure at all in the peri area was misery.

The thing that worked for me was the ice glove.  Oh the sweet ice glove.
